After a trip around the world, the "World Car Awards" finally landed in New York, at its auto show, and Audi's A7 was named "World Luxury Car," by a distinguished jury.
For the second consecutive year, Audi won with a World Car Award. Last year, the A8 was named the winner in the Luxury Car category. The honors continued for 2019 as the automaker’s A7 was named the winner of the 2019 World Luxury Car award.
’It Is A Great Honor … To Win The … Award’
“It is a great honor for Audi to win the ‘World Luxury Car’ award twice in a row,” said Hans-Joachim Rothenpieler, member of the Board of Management of Audi AG Technical Development. “We are very proud of this award because it shows Audi’s ability to develop leading premium cars in various segments.”
The latest win is the 10th time Audi has been named the winner of a World Car award. The first awards program began 15 years ago. The awards venue has always been the last major show of the season, the New York International Auto Show (NYIAS). Called the “Road to the World Car Awards,” the awards ceremony culminated a year-long journey with stops in various countries to find the award winners.
This year’s award marks the 10th time that Audi has won one of these awards. In 2014, Audi’s A3 received the “World Luxury Car of the Year.” In 2005, the first year of the awards program, the automaker’s A6 also won the “Car of the Year” award. The automaker also holds the record for the most World Car awards.
Finalists Whittled From 5 Model List
This year’s winner came from among five prestige models, whittled down to three on the short list. The awards program announced finalists in Geneva on March 5th. The three finalists included the Audi A7, Audi Q8, and the BMW 8 Series.
A relatively recent addition to the World Previous World Luxury Car – the award was added in 2014 – previous winners included:
