In a move that has surprised many, the owner of a very early Bugatti Chiron has decided to auction the hypercar at Sotheby's Paris auction. Pricing is expected between $3.8 and $4.3 million, though it could go higher. It is one of only 18 delivered in the second quarter of 2017.
Even though Bugatti reported only last week that it had completed it’s the first year’s Chiron production on target, already one of the world’s most power two-seaters is headed toward the auction block. Officially, the Chiron has been in production for a year or so, but the owner of one of the first 20 delivered has decided to sell the 1,500-horsepower hypercar. Bugatti stays on track with 70 Chirons built in year.
High-speed hypercar set for February auction
So, at RM Sotheby’s upcoming 2018 February Paris auction, a striking Atlantic Blue over French Racing Blue will be up for sale. The owner took delivery of this Chiron last April as part of the first 18 delivered in the second quarter of 2017. The hypercar has fewer than 621 miles on the clock, half of which are thought to be manufacturing test miles. The Chiron is expected to attract bids of between 3.2 to 3.6 million euros, or somewhere between $3.8 and $4.3 million. The owner initially paid $3 million for the hypercar so that observers expect a large payout.
The cabin, finished in a handsome brown quilted leather upholstery and which features an optional carbon-fiber steering wheel, provide a neat contrast for the blue-on-blue hypercar. The Chiron up for auction also features standout optional Maritime Blue brake calipers, while the wheels are “Classique” silver.
Bugatti’s plans call for a total of 500 Chirons between now and 2020. Each hypercar features Bugatti’s 8.0-liter quad-turbo W engine. The powerplant turns out 1,500-horsepower and 1,180 pounds-feet of torque.
Top speed is limited to 261mph
The automaker’s seven-speed DCT gearbox takes the massive power output and delivers it to the driving wheels. The all-wheel-drive road rocket can hit 60 in 2.5 seconds and reach a speed of 261 mph.
There is little to keep the bidding on this Bugatti from zooming to the stars when bidding opens next month. It was one of the automaker’s first deliveries, and the exterior treatment is somewhat unique. It also has a very low delivery number, too. So, the factors are all in favor of it attracting who knows how much.
