Ford's E-Transit van was established as a commercial cargo van market leader. To meet the demand, the automaker plans to ramp up production at the Kansas City Assembly plant where the E-van is built.
A year into its service as one of Ford’s flagships in the automaker’s efforts to reach leadership in the electric vehicle (EV) space, the automaker has found that the E-Transit van has established the van as the leader of the pack in the all-electric commercial cargo van market.
Ford To Ramp E-Transit Production
According to the automaker’s statement this week, the E-Transit is the best-selling electric cargo van in the United States and Canada and the sales leader in Europe. As demand for the vehicle rises, Ford announced it would be boosting E-Transit production at its Kansas City Assembly plant next month. The automaker also announced it would be adding digital rearview mirrors to the E-Transit.
“Businesses looking to adopt battery electric technology is happening globally, and E-Transit – along with the Ford Pro one-stop shop of software, services, and charging solutions – is at the forefront of that revolution,” said Ted Cannis, Ford Pro CEO. “In its first year on the road, E-Transit has made an immediate impact, and we are just getting started.”
While other automakers are still announcing plans to bring electric vans to market, E-Transit has made sharp inroads into driving EV adoption. In the U.S., 6,500 E-Transit vans were sold through December 2022 – including in all 50 states – accounting for more than 60 percent of the electric van market.
12 Million Miles Logged Since E-Transit Began Service
Across the United States and Canada, E-Transit customers have logged at least 12 million miles since the all-electric van arrived in February 2025. In that time, Ford ProE-Telematics data shows that E-Transit drivers have saved more than 745,000 gallons of gas and more than 4.3 million kilograms of CO2 compared to comparably sized gas-powered vehicles Transit’s vans.
The versatile vans, which include chassis cab and cutaway models, offer customers eight configurations to serve a wide range of business types, helping make it the market leader in 28 of 30 industries recognized by S&P Global.
Ford Scores Major USPS Win
In other E-Transit van news, Ford scored a big win with the United State Postal Service as the post office signed a deal for nearly 10,000 electric postal trucks. You have likely seen the postal trucks that the agency uses. They are red, white, and blue and meander up and down the nation’s streets and boulevards, delivering mail, packages, and documents needed to keep America’s commerce going.

Marc Stern has been an automotive writer since 1971 when an otherwise normal news editor said, "You're our new car editor," and dumped about 27 pounds of auto stuff on my desk. I was in heaven as I have been a gearhead from my early days. As a teen, I spent many misspent hours hanging out at gas stations (a big thing in my youth) and working on cars. From there on, it was a straight line to my first column for the paper "You Auto Know," an enterprise I handled faithfully for 32 years. Not many people know I also handled computer documentation for most of my earnings while writing YAN. My best writing, though, was always in cars.
