Ford has recalled 600,000-plus vehicles for issues with their rearview cameras and front axles. The automaker plans to begin notifying owners of the affected vehicles in early November.
Though there was a major Ford vehicle recall that received some action a couple of weeks ago, it hasn't received much play from major online magazine sites like Torque News. So, we are bringing you the recall issues. In this particular recall, Ford has recalled more than 600,000 vehicles over problems with backup cameras. My colleague Jimmy Dinsmore looked at A Recall Of Mustangs. You Can Read About It Here.
Ford Recalls Vehicles Due To Faulty Display Systems
According to Consumer Reports, Ford has recalled the vehicles because their backup camera systems can go blank or show distorted imaging. This issue affects the automaker's backup safety system in that drivers may fail to see people or obstacles behind them. The result could lead to a crash.
The vehicles affected include:
- Ford F-150 trucks built between Oct. 26, 2019, and May 18, 2020
- Ford Explorer SUVs built between Nov. 16, 2019, and May 18, 2020
- Ford Mustang coupes and convertibles built between Nov. 18, 2019, and May 26, 2020
- Ford Expedition SUVs built between Oct. 30, 2019, and June 22, 2020
- Ford Escape SUVs built between Nov. 5, 2019, and May 18, 2020
- Ford Ranger trucks built between Dec. 9, 2019, and May 19, 2020
- Ford Edge SUVs built between Nov. 13, 2019, and May 26, 2020
- Ford Transit vans built between Oct. 28, 2019, and May 20, 2020
- Ford Super Duty trucks built between Oct. 30, 2019, and May 18, 2020
- Lincoln Corsair SUVs built between Nov. 14, 2019, and May 18, 2020
- Lincoln MKX and Nautilus SUVs built between Nov. 21, 2019, and May 26, 2020
Ford Recall Involves Circuit Board
The problem involves a circuit board. The board causes the camera to display backup images to display correctly. The faulty circuit board may show distorted images or display no display when the truck is in Reverse.
According to Ford, the problem stems from a malfunction in a circuit board that is part of the backup camera. Dealers will replace the camera free of charge. Ford says it is not aware of any crashes or injuries related to this problem.
Ford will contact owners by mail starting Nov. 7, 2020. Owners can also contact Ford at 866-436-7332. The campaign is under the auspices of the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA). The campaign number is 20V575. Ford's internal identification number is 20C19.
In a second recall, Ford has recalled about 10,000 2019 Ford Super Duty F-250 and F-350 heavy-duty Super Duty pickups. The vehicles are equipped with:
- Single rear wheels
- Dual rear wheels
- Four-wheel-drive
The issue involves the front axle. The axle may contain an improperly welded wheel-end yoke. The yoke and its axle tube end may be improperly welded. This can increase the risk of a crash.
Dealers will inspect the front-axle wheel yoke weld location and replace the axle assembly if the weld has not been accurately located. The repair is free.
Ford To Schedule Work Nov. 9
Ford will notify the Super Duty owners beginning Nov. 9. Owners can contact the NHTSA vehicle safety hotline at 888-327-4236. Or, they can visit the agency's website to check the vehicle's identification number (VIN). They can also contact Ford at 800-327-3673.
