With a release date around late 2017 the new Hyundai Veloster has been spotted in South Korea, this time showing a completely uncovered rear end.
Previous images of the vehicle have popped up online showing a camouflaged front and rear end, but now the latest shots give some impression of what the future vehicle may provide, at least from the rear end. The latest shots came courtesy of a Korean car blog which show some distinctive features on the compact Coupe, such as the two centrally located exhausts, large alloy wheels, rear diffuser and the roof mounted rear wing. The 2018 Veloster also hints at having IRS, which is basically independent rear suspension, which is seen on the 2017 Elantra Sport which uses MultiLink IRS, so it won't be a major surprise if this makes its way onto the new Veloster.
The fastback rear end seems to stay and the choice of engines seem to be aimed directly at the younger market. The current Veloster Turbo features a 1.6L T-GDi with 201 HP and 195lbs. ft. of torque. The next model could have a 1.6 L twin scroll turbo four and a 2L GDI engine on offer along with a N high-performance variation at some point. Transmission wise, the turbo version may come with a 6 speed manual or a 6 speed Ecoshift dual clutch transmission. As the mainstay of the vehicle's engine has been the 1.6L, it's safe to say some variant of this will be the final product.
Running over the Hyundai blog the new Veloster shows a cascading grille like the one on the i30, with a red line that runs the width of the car. Another feature that seems to stand out is the new taller and wider taillight set up. As with most camouflaged vehicles at this point, there's not much to report on the interior, so stay tuned for that one. The rather nice sports bike inspired dash and leather seating in the current turbo version will hopefully carry over with some possible design tweaks.
The Veloster has been going from strength to strength since its launch in 2011 and with SEMA concert versions featured in 2011 and 2012, we may just see another at the 2017 show. The new Hyundai Veloster should come around late 2017 with a world wide release soon after.
