Consumer Report's Annual Owner Satisfaction Survey has put Tesla in the number one position stating that 91% of Tesla owners would buy another Tesla vehicle in the future and the charisma of Elon Musk, Tesla CEO being a factor in their decision.
The consumer report surveyed over 300,000 vehicles, beating Porsche by 7% and Audi in 3rd position, then Subaru and Toyota showing the numbers that said they would definitely purchase another car by Tesla in the future. Fiat finished last, with a 53% rating for customers who said they would buy again. This came ahead of the Tesla Model S gaining a Buy Recommendation from the Consumer Reports earlier in the year as a response to its reliability rating improvement.
The survey focused on vehicles which came from the years 2014 to 2017, with other auto manufacturers moving around the placings such as Hyundai moving from 24th to 13th place and Lincoln moving from 21st to 12th place. Some auto manufacturers didn't do as well with Ram falling from fifth to 17th place, BMW from 14th to sixth place and Volkswagen from 16th to 24th place.
The Consumer Reports commented on the survey, 'Our brand rankings represent owner sentiment across each brand's product line' adding 'determined by the percentage of owners who responded 'definitely yes' to the question of whether they would buy the same vehicle if they had it to do all over again.' 'To determine brand love — or disdain — we took a straight average of the satisfaction score for each brand’s models,' 'In order to qualify, the brand had to have at least two models with data. For this analysis, we focused on cars from model years 2014-2017 to represent the current state of the brands, which included over 300,000 vehicles from the survey.'
This is great news for Tesla motors for if they can hang onto 91% of their customer base to buy the same model again in the future, then this will definitely rattle the rest of the automotive market. The other contributing factor is the charisma of Elon Musk and the ground work he has done publicising Tesla, most notably through social media. Preplanned or not, we all love to put a face to a company, just like Richard Branson and Virgin and this goes a long way to promoting the brand, arguably better than any ad. campaign.
Tesla have a busy year ahead of them with the launch of the Model 3 and the completion of their Gigafactory to produce the battery packs for their vehicles. With over 400,000 preordered customers for the Model 3, having paid a $1000 deposit and many more expansion plans, 2017 may just be the best year yet for Tesla. Nikola would be proud!
