Hyundai has issued recalls covering 600,000 vehicles sold in the United States.
The first recall covers 437,000 Santa Fe and Santa Fe Sport and it concerns the hood latch. Corrosion in the secondary latch cable could lead to an unsecured hood, in the event that the primary hood latch fails. The affected Santa Fe and Santa Fe Sports are from model year 2013 to 2017.
What Recalls Entail
The second recall involves 161,000 Genesis and Sonata models built between 2015 and 2016. Corrosion in a parking brake switch may cause the indicator light to malfunction, which means it might not illuminate even when the parking brake is engaged.
Hyundai will send recall notices to vehicle owners at the end of the month, and dealers will make the repairs free of charge.
Get it Fixed
It must be recall day today, as we wrote earlier about a Mazda recall that came to light almost a decade after the problems first surfaced. Insert cynical grumble about bad news being shuffled away to a Friday here.
If you own one of these vehicles, keep an eye on your mailbox for the recall notice, and take your vehicle in for the fix as soon as possible. A hood that flies open unexpectedly is a safety hazard. It’s also a safety hazard to think your parking brake is set when it isn’t.
