Spoiler alert: The next Hyundai Veloster might just have a big ‘ole wing hanging off the body.
Well, that would apply to the Veloster N, anyway.
We know an N version of the Veloster is almost certainly coming to North America (the N sub brand is Hyundai’s in-house high-performance brand). And we’re starting to see more details.
More Hyundai Veloster N Details
Autoblog notes that recent spy shots show large wheels, big brakes with calipers that are painted red, large outlets for the exhaust, and a large rear wing. The blog compares the wing to that of the Civic Type R, but to this author’s eye, it reminds more of the wing on the Subaru WRX STI or Ford Focus RS.
We also quibble with Autoblog’s horsepower estimate, which comes in around 250. We wrote earlier this week that we expect it to possibly be as high as around 290.
Then again, Autoblog could be correct: 290 might not be a feasible number. It’s going to depend on a lot of factors, and we’ll just have to stay tuned – even 250 horsepower should be plenty, enough to give a high-zoot Veloster plenty of pep.
A Veloster N Would be a Hoot
The other performance items are par for the course, and we’d be a little surprised if the N didn’t come with a manual transmission (perhaps an automatic will be an option). An N version of the already sport Veloster could be quite the hoot to drive, and perhaps give Hyundai a true competitor to the Volkswagen GTI and Ford Focus ST.
