Find out what is important to know about the new 2020 Toyota RAV4 TRD Off-Road – before you buy it.

The rich just keep getting richer. America’s best-selling SUV and hybrid, the Toyota RAV4, just released a new trim level – the 2020 RAV4 TRD Off-Road. This one should satisfy both SUV and off-roading enthusiasts nicely.

TRD Off-Road is Toyota Racing Development’s newest addition to the Toyota lineup. It joins 4Runner, Tacoma, Tundra, Sequoia, Camry and Avalon. Appealing to buyers both in function and in appearance, this new RAV4 grade deserves a closer look.

Here are important things to know.

A 2020 RAV4 meant for off the road

When the RAV4 was redesigned for the 2019 model year, I suspect engineers definitely had the 2020 TRD Off-Road in mind. After all, this new unibody construction is 57 percent more rigid than the previous generation RAV4. It has a taller stance, is lower and wider, and has a more rugged overall look. Would that not be perfect for driving that next isolated and rocky trail or up that next mountain pass?

Several factors make this the ideal SUV to consider for your family camping trips, your overlanding adventures out west or your rides to the ski slopes.

The 2020 RAV4 TRD Off-Road comes with TRD-tuned suspension with beefed-up coil springs and twin-tube shocks to smooth out bumps from uneven surfaces and improve body control. It also features a healthy ground clearance of 8.6 inches to help get you through taller obstacles like brush, rocks and stumps.

Multi-terrain select controls are easy to use and help you gain the most traction possible while traveling over and through mud and sand, rock and dirt and even snow.

The wheels on 2020 RAV4 TRD Off-Road

One of the highlights of the newest Toyota TRD Off-Road is the wheels / tire combination. You will find 18-inch matte-black TRD alloy wheels with Falken Wildpeak A/T Trail all-terrain tires. The benefit here is these tires are less prone to puncture and were designed to easily rid themselves of mud, snow and other debris. In other words, let’s take this off road now.

Other exterior key features are LED headlights, LED daytime running lights and LED fog lights. Also, look for larger overfenders and raised roof rails meant for carrying oversized cargo up top.

I’ll take “towing” for $3,500 please Alex

Just like the 2020 Adventure offering, RAV4 TRD Off-Road has the highest tow capacity of all the RAV4s. Drivers can haul and tow 3,500 pounds of trailers, bikes, boats, etc. safely.

Another towing tool is the trailer sway control, and just like its name might imply, works to lessen swaying of whatever your RAV4 is pulling. This makes driving safer for both the tower and the towed.

2020 Toyota RAV4 TRD Off-Road colors

You can choose from 5 different colors if you decide to buy a 2020 RAV4 TRD Off-Road. We will start with the easy stuff. Super White and Ruby Flare Pearl are 2 of the options.

Learn about key 2020 RAV4 TRD Off-Road Highlights in my full video review.

Next, you can pick Midnight Black Metallic, Magnetic Gray Metallic and Lunar Rock. All 3 of these colors have the option of coming with an Ice Edge Roof as well.

Time for your thoughts on TRD Off-Road

I am still getting used to seeing the words TRD Off-Road and RAV4 in the same sentence. I feel that based solely on the added function this new trim level provides it will be a very popular choice with buyers. In a way, 4Runner TRD Off-Road, Tacoma TRD Off-Road and Tundra Off-Road can now share the same space.

What do you think of the TRD Off-Road? Do you think you will check it out at your local dealership? Or maybe another Toyota truck or SUV is in your future.

Thanks for reading everyone. See you next story when I compare all Toyota TRD Off-Road models including Tundra, Tacoma, 4Runner and RAV4. See who wins.

Just purchased the 2020 TRD OFF ROAD. Love the véhicule so Far. I live in Montreal and we have a tuff winter conditions here with a lot of Snow. It is a Beast for a SUV. Mainly i bought the TRD version since i have a passion for Fishing and do a lot of trails with my SUV. Suspension feels way better than my Previous 2016 Rav4. Will give a update this summer on how it drives in trails. ;)
