5 Things to Know Before Buying a 2021 Toyota 4Runner TRD Pro

Work for Torque News, follow on Twitter, Youtube and Facebook.

We give the full scoop on changes and important facts about 2021 4Runner TRD Pro. These are things you will want to know.

Even in years when Toyota 4Runner is not fully redesigned, there are still quite a few updates to keep prospective buyers happy.

The 2020 model year brought many changes to 4Runner, including new multimedia applications like Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, along with larger 8-inch touch screens. Toyota also introduced Toyota Safety Sense to all its models.

A 2021 4Runner also has some important changes. The one I am most excited about is LED headlights and LED fog lights across the board for all trim levels. A new 4Runner Trail Special Edition is headed our way as well.

Oh, and the 2021 4Runner TRD Pro is updated too.

4Runner TRD Pro Re-tuned suspension

Fox shocks improve ride quality on the road as well as off. They have been upgraded on 2021 4Runner.

Re-tuned 2.5-inch Fox internal bypass shocks will improve trail driving isolation and high-speed performance. This upgraded suspension system works with TRD-tuned coil springs and yields an extra inch of front lift that will provide more off-road trail success.

Powertrain components carry over from 2020 model year 4Runner. Look for a 4.0-liter V6 engine and 5-speed automatic transmission. This produces 270 horsepower and 278 lb.-ft. torque.

4Runner TRD Pro Wheels

Wheel and tire size and appearance are important to many SUV owners, and Toyota 4Runner is no exception.

New redesigned black TRD alloy flow form wheels with Nitto Terra Grappler tires help your 4Runner meet the road. Expect new wheels that are stronger, more rigid and angle in deeper than last year’s wheels.

2021 4Runner New Color

Lunar Rock is the key here. Every year for the last several years, Toyota nominates a special color for its exclusive TRD Pro color. This year Lunar Rock has been selected to cover the exteriors of Toyota Tacoma, Tundra, Sequoia and 4Runner TRD Pro models.

Previous exclusive colors have been Inferno orange, Cement, Quicksand, Cavalry Blue, Voodoo Blue and Army Green.

2021 4Runner Pricing

Pricing is going up this 2021 Toyota 4Runner model year. This includes TRD Pro – by $605. Factory MSRP for a 2020 TRD Pro is $49,865. This will increase to $50,470 for a 2021 Toyota 4Runner TRD Pro.

Hard to get 2021 4Runner TRD Pro

This topic is only my opinion and I base it on availability of 4Runner TRD Pro models for the last couple years.

It was challenging for customers to find Voodoo Blue TRD Pro 4Runners in 2019. Army Green has been extremely difficult for many people across the country to secure. I get questions and requests about it all the time on my “Toyotajeff” YouTube channel.

We should just face facts here. A 4Runner TRD Pro is a very popular vehicle. Plus, quantities are generally limited for TRD Pro in most regions.

I suspect it will be just as challenging for potential customers to locate a 2021 4Runner TRD Pro in Lunar Rock. Imagine that euphoric feeling you will have when you get your prized TRD Pro.

Lunar Rock really is a cool looking color. It looks pretty tough on the current RAV4. I cannot wait to see it in person on a 2021 Toyota Tacoma, Tundra, 4Runner and Sequoia.

Time for your thoughts on 2021 4Runner

Thanks for reading everyone. I try to stay current with all Toyota information, including new models and breaking news. Feel free to bookmark my Torque News / Toyota News column so you can stay updated as well.

My suggestion for customers looking to purchase a new 4Runner TRD Pro is to contact your favorite dealership and salesperson as soon as you feel confident you want one. They should be able to help you make arrangements to get one.

Expect a small to moderate wait time once you confirm your order. My hunch is we can expect to see the 2021 4Runner around late September into October. This time frame could change as it gets closer.

See you next story when I reveal top changes coming to 2021 Tacoma.

It is more like the powertrain carries on from the 2005 model year, which is when the 5 spd transmission debuted. The 4.0L V-6 is even older. Toyota can keep soldiering on giving a random feature here and there such as LED headlights that it could have gotten years ago, but with the coming of the new Bronco, with more exciting powertrains, the 4Runner and the Jeep products will need to evolve to keep pace, or watch the sales dwindle. While not tested yet, it is my hope that the Bronco disrupts this segment of the market.
