When it comes to taking care of your Toyota Prius there are hundreds of companies out there that are promising amazing results with their product. BG Products are also competing for your attention as well. With their specialized Hybrid formula they are claiming a fix of or reduction in the oil consumption that plagues our cars. I want to take a closer look at what these products are and how they are working to help get our fuel sippers back to good health.
If you have not seen my story already about oil consumption make sure you check it out. I explain why Toyota Prius has oil consumption problems in the first place. As an author, I want to bring my readers only the best information possible. I do not ever want to give false hope to any reader that what I am saying is going to be a cure for your vehicle, but rather this information is to be used with skill and tact.
When It comes to maintaining your Prius there are many things to consider. You should always consult a professional that you trust if you cannot come to a conclusion on your own about something. For this reason I will give you my most professional view on the BG Hybrid Products that I am reviewing to help our cars get back to a better state of health.
Now the question becomes what is in this kit and how can it benefit your Prius. Without further delay here is the BG Hybrid Kit that should help you reduce or eliminate oil consumption in your car.
Symptoms Your Toyota Prius Needs Help
If you have been experiencing Poor fuel efficiency, loss of power, slow response, excessive smoke/consumption, then your Prius is in need of help. There are at least three ways we need to maintain the Prius in order to keep it health. The first product EPR, is what we will look at to see what it can do. This is a 3 part system that really claims to make a massive difference in our cars
Engine Performance Restoration, EPR
Over time the gasoline engines in the Prius can get loaded with deposits. These deposits can come from poor fuel quality and the breakdown of engine oil. The deposits get caught up in the piston ring lands which keep them from maintaining a proper seal in the combustion chamber. This means that oil can get in and be burned off at an increased rate beyond what would be considered normal.
Also deposits can clog up things like EGR ports, if your Prius has that or it can even gum up PCV valves as well. The EPR formula is designed to breakdown hardened deposits and flush them out. EPR is used before you do the oil change and is simply added into the crankcase. It circulates through the entire oil system and since it that system is pressurized it is like having a high pressure system inside your engine blasting the deposit build up away from the tight spaces, like your pistons.
Once the EPR has had about 15 minutes to do the dirty work, you drain the remains right out of the pan and proceed with next step. This process, according to BG should restore engine performance, reduce or eliminate oil consumption due to the cleaning effect of the EPR. Hence, Engine Performance Restorer.
BG MOA Oil Supplement
Just like us as humans need some extra help with keeping our bodies in good health, our Prius engines are no different. BG MOA is an additive that can keep piston rings from sticking, stabilize oil viscosity, prevent sludge and varnish, reduce wear and prevents increased harmful emissions. Not only is MOA doing that but BG claims it has other benefits which is one of the issues we are trying to tackle, preventing excessive oil consumption. Even our Prius, the incredible machines they may be, are susceptible to this.
This seems like a miracle in a can if you ask me, and honestly it seems too good to be true, but since I have never seen this product before or used it until now, I cannot speak to until I see results.
BG also has a warranty with this product specifically. It is called the BG Protection plan and covers the following. The BG Engine Service Plan is backed by the Lifetime BG Protection Plan if the initial service is performed within 100,000 miles. (so get this done on your Prius before you hit your 100k service interval)
The coverage of the engine BG says it will warranty. This includes pistons and rings, wrist pins and bushings, rods and rod bearings, camshafts and bearings, pushrods, intake valves and guides (grinding adjustments excluded), crankshaft and bearings, cylinder liners or bores, valve lifters, timing chains (stretched timing chains are excluded) (timing belts and damage to engine parts due to broken timing belts excluded), rocker arms and pivots, oil pump, timing gears or sprockets.
So all internal parts would be warrantied third party. This is pretty darn cool and that a company would back their product up. It must mean they have some serious science behind what they are selling.
BG 44k Fuel System Cleaner
Just like choosing brake pads, there are loads of different fuel system cleaners that have many claims. So what makes BG 44k the better choice? Well, in our fuel that we pump and put into the Prius, it can have varying level of detergents. These chemicals help control deposits and keep our fuel systems working in optimal condition. Sometimes though we think we are going to be okay by using poor quality fuel. This leads to deposits left over from the combustion process and slowly decreases fuel system efficiency.
The 44k is a high performing, potent detergent that cleans everything from pumps, to fuel injectors. Since it reduces deposits it keeps carbon from building up and causing that pesky oil consumption we are all wanting to get rid of.
Conclusion
While no product can claim that it fixes hard mechanical problems, there are companies out there like BG that are watching out for us Toyota Prius owners. Once I can get some results after a few thousand miles I will be happy to share that with all of you and see if this product can help our cars get the mileage and the life that we are looking for.

I own a 2009 Toyota Corolla.
I own a 2009 Toyota Corolla. Per factory recommendations, I change the oil every 5,000 miles. I use Toyota factory oil filters from the local dealer....$10.70 out the door for two. I use Mobil 1 synthetic motor oil. This model year can use 0w-20 or 5w-20. I use the 5w oil since it has higher phosphorus and zinc levels. The car has 181,230 miles on it. It uses a pint of oil between changes. When filling with oil, I can look through the filler opening in the valve cover........the top of the engine is just as clean as the day I bought it. Truly a testament to regular oil changes with a quality oil and filter. And the valvetrain is just as quiet as when new.
