In after hours trading on January 21st, 2020, Tesla became the first US publicly traded company with a valuation worth $100 Billion USD. Tesla's stock (NYSE: TSLA) surged 7% to a new all time high north of $555/share.
What an impressive milestone by Elon Musk and the entire Tesla team. Following the Tesla stock is like trying to explain to your wife why you spent $2,000 on rims for your car. It is irrational, filled with belief, and BUNCH of risk. Tesla’s stock moves with Trump’s tweets and Elon’s too. It was only yesterday, that Elon Musk was fighting against the claims that Tesla cars are unsafe.
Today, we are celebrating something different though. We are celebrating the future. As Tesla crosses the $100 billion valuation, which is more than GM and Ford combined, we begin to take them seriously. They are not only capable machines, but they are highly efficient and filled with top of the line technology. This could also demonstrate Wall Street’s belief in an all-electric future.
Tesla's 2020 Valuation
Tesla’s new valuation also inches them closer and closer to the portion of options worth $346 million, a payday that is actually record breaking. Acquired only if Tesla is able to stay at or above $100 billion for more than six months.
What we do know is that the stock has tripled in three months. The entire stock market is inflated at the moment, but the real question is when to sell? We will never know. New price targets are being put in at $800 and some even higher. Another thing we know is that the market acts irrationally. Here’s to finding out and holding on for deal life. Calls or puts?
