Sales numbers for December and the rest of 2011 are in and for the second straight year, the Chevrolet Camaro has claimed for title of being the bestselling muscle car in the American automotive industry – beating out the Ford Mustang and the Dodge Challenger by a very comfortable margin as the Camaro claimed its first back-to-back sales title in decades.

Since Fiat has taken majority control of the Chrysler Group from the US Government there hasn’t been much talk of Chrysler ownership but with the upcoming 2013 Dodge Dart reportedly hitting 40 miles per gallon in preliminary testing late last month – Fiat has met the final requirement set forth by the feds when Fiat purchased the first piece of the American automaker in 2009.

This morning, General Motors announced the changes that will be made to the Chevrolet Volt electric vehicle battery coolant system in an effort to lower the risk of fires after severe accidents after the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration opened a preliminary investigation into the design of the Volt’s battery system.

The Chevrolet Volt ended 2011 the same way that it started, comfortably outselling the Nissan Leaf (for the third month in a row) but as the numbers were tallied up for all of the 2011 year, the Nissan Leaf claimed the title of the bestselling electric vehicle in the American market.

The 2011 sales numbers are in and it seems as if Infiniti is poised to follow Lincoln's path to irrelevance in the marketplace. The problem may be that Nissan is making its own cars and trucks too damn well to justify buying an upscale Infiniti.

While the efficiency of modern engines has been improving for years, a study by the Massachusetts Institute of Technology reports most of the efficiency went into carrying the extra weight being added to the cars American’s buy. Basically, they are stating if the engines of today were in the cars of 1980, they would go a lot farther on a gallon of gas.

The city of Baltimore has terminated the five year contract with Baltimore Racing Development, the private company that ran the 2011 Baltimore Grand Prix. Even with the contract terminated, the city is determined to hold the race in 2012.

A123, the company that supplies the battery packs for the gorgeous new Fisker Karma recently discovered a possible coolant leak that could lead to electrical fires in the high tech sedan and today, Fisker issued a statement claiming that the majority of Karma electric sedans built thus far have had new battery packs installed through the new recall – just two weeks after the automaker was made aware of the problem.
