Mazda broke ground this month on a new auto plant in Mexico. The joint venture between the Japanese carmaker and Sumitomo Corp. creates the newly formed Mazda Motor Manufacturing de Mexico S.A. de C.V. Plant workers will assemble the Mazda2 and Mazda3 for Central American and South American markets beginning in 2014.

A new Mazda dealership opened today in Beccles in the United Kingdom. Wrights Mazda's opening brings the Japanese carmaker's cars to customers in northeast Suffolk in the UK for the first time, the daily Norwich Evening News in Norfolk reported today on its Web site.

Mazda North American Operations has built and opened a Dallas / Fort Worth Parts Distribution Center to service 110 Mazda dealerships in the Southwestern United States and Mexico.

Mazda today launched an all-new "MyMazda" iPhone App that provides owners of its sporty cars access to service offers and scheduled maintenance reminders for free. It can be downloaded from the Apple App Store. Soon, Android users will also be able to use "MyMazda," too.

A drunken Canadian driver of a Mazda6 survived even though he crashed into six other vehicles as he crossed several lanes of traffic in the city of Winnipeg on Tuesday. When his car came to a stop, police in Winnipeg arrested him, and later released him. Two people were hurt. All seven drivers survived the mayhem.

Gasping economies in the United States and Mexico aren't afflicting Mazda, which for now has the world by the tail as it gears up for an even more prosperous 2012. This is because its 2011 sales figures are through the roof in both countries and continue to accelerate. One car's sales jumped almost 200% last month.

The Mazda RX-8 was introduced in the US as a 2004 model with big expectations but with the newest Mazda rotary sports car falling well short of the mark, Mazda has announced that production of the RX-8 ended in July with sales ending at the end of this year.

Since the introduction of the S197 platform Ford Mustang in 2005, the legendary pony car has been built at the Auto Alliance plant which Ford shares with Mazda but with the news that Mazda is planning to move out in the near future, some analysts believe that the Mustang alone does not move enough units to keep the Flat Rock production facility up and running.

Inside Line has heard that Mazda engineers were tasked with dropping 720lbs from the current Miata. This is an astronomical number that is surely intended as an exercise to see the limits of what can be shed from the original car. This is excellent news since the Miata MX5 has grown larger and fatter as the years passed which is completely the opposite of what the true spirit of this car is.

Contrary to rumors, the Mazda Mazda6 isn't going away, but it is going away, or at least it will be coming from far away. Mazda North American Operations announced today that the next generation of Mazda6 for North America will be built in Japan rather than the AutoAlliance International (AAI) factory in Flat Rock, Michigan. A Mazda representative, however, flatly denied rumors that the Mazda Mazda6 would be dropped from the North American market.

The Auto Alliance plant in Flat Rock, Michigan is a joint venture between Ford and Mazda, with the mighty Mustang built alongside the new Mazda6 but according to reports out of Japan, Mazda may be looking to end production of the slow-selling sedan at the shared production facility.

Mazda breaks new ground with in fuel economy with the new 2012 Mazda Mazda3 that will get 40 miles per gallon with a new technology called Skyactiv. Skyactiv will also be applied to the Mazda CX-5, a future smaller crossover, and will help define Mazda's future designs. Mazda made the announcement at the New York Auto show, also releasing plans for diesel in the U.S.

This is the name given to the Minagi Concept car, first introduced at the Geneva Auto Show in March, as it moves into production: the Mazda CX-5. The Mazda MX-5--commonly known in the U.S. as the Mazda Miata--will be playing giant killer as it takes on heavyweight names in racing including Aston Martin, Porsche, Lotus and BMW in the 2011 Britcar MSA British Endurance Championship. A specially-prepared lightweight MX-5 GT will compete in the "endurance" class, which allows heavily modified production car as opposed to the production class, which allows mods mostly related to safety.

Japanese auto production has fallen to only 35 percent of their former output as a result of the Tohuko earthquake and tsunami, according to IHS Automotive Insight. Still the situation in Libya has an impact as well. "It's volatility that really drives people to smaller cars," said Aaron Bragman, an analyst for the auto authority.
