After starting production at Giga Texas with the refreshed Model Y with 4680 cells and a structural battery pack, today, Tesla has also started selling a second Model Y variant from the Austin facility. The new Model Y Long Range comes with the 2170 cells and updated interior features.

After facing difficulties ramping 4680 cell production in-house, Tesla has been partnering with battery suppliers to build the new cell format. And today we learned that Samsung SDI is setting up a pilot plant to supply 4680 cells to Tesla and BMW.

After several months of only selling the Model Y Performance from Giga Berlin, Tesla has finally begun producing the Long Range variant of the all-electric crossover.
