The five finalists for the 2012 Green Car of the Year have been announced with the field reduced to the: 2012 Ford Focus Electric, 2012 Mitsubishi i, the 2012 Honda Civic CNG, the 2012 Volkswagen Passat TDI and the 2012 Toyota Prius V. The winner will be announced at the 2011 Los Angeles Auto Show on Nov. 17.

Toyota has chosen 26 American teachers and school librarians from 20 states to go to Costa Rica Nov. 19-Dec. 3 through the Toyota International Teacher Program. The aim is to help teachers and librarians inspire American students in their own schools by becoming "more involved in environmental, cultural and world studies," Toyota says.

Toyota has come up with several options and option packages to choose from to equip a new 2012 Toyota Tundra full-size pickup truck. New models were introduced today by Toyota and while no prices were announced, the Japanese carmaker has in general been holding the line on MSRPs. The 2011 Tundras started at around $24,000 for bare-bones models but cost $43,000 or more, well-equipped.

Toyota today introduced a new 2012 limited-edition pickup truck in Dallas that will be assembled for eight weeks only this spring in San Antonio. The new 2012 Tacoma Toyota Racing Development T|X Extreme pickup will start at around $35,000 after it goes into production and reaches Toyota dealerships in March.

TrueCar.com rightly asks the question, "What recession?" as it reports that new car sales are up 10.1 percent over last September. The car site is predicting that annual new car sales for 2011 will be 12.75 million.
