Tesla's newly-launched Universal Wall Connector is more expensive than its current offering.
Tesla has launched an all-new Universal Wall Connector in North America for $595. It's the only home charging option that can charge any electric vehicle. No more adapters or hassle. In March 2023 Torque News did report that Tesla was rumored to offer a new affordable wall connector, but this new universal wall connector turned out not to be as affordable as we thought, but rather more expensive.
On its website, Tesla says the orders of its new Universal Wall Connector will begin shipping in October 2023.
By the way, You can also now connect directly to your Wall Connector via the Tesla App. "Set up your Wall Connector to see charging data and get the latest software updates."
Tesla's Universal Wall Connector is a cutting-edge charging solution, which promises unparalleled convenience, versatility, and efficiency for EV owners across the board.
Tesla's move is genious, but I have a question. If you can, please share your thoughts in the comments section below. It seems to me that Tesla is now encouraging CCS and NACS to coexist. Why can’t everyone just get on the NACS already, especially considering EV Charging is a considerable mess for new electric vehicle owners?
Tesla Changes EV Charging Game
The Universal Wall Connector boasts an impressive set of features that make it a game-changer in the world of EV charging. At the heart of its capabilities is its ability to add up to 44 miles of range per hour at an output of 11.5 kW / 48 amps. This means faster charging times and the convenience of waking up to a fully charged vehicle each morning.
One of the standout features of this new connector is its integrated J1772 adapter. This revolutionary technology enables the Universal Wall Connector to conveniently charge any electric vehicle, regardless of its make or model. This eliminates the need for separate adapters and streamlines the charging process for EV owners.
Seamless Integration and Smart Features
Tesla's commitment to user-friendly design is evident in the Universal Wall Connector's auto-sensing handle. This nifty feature automatically opens a Tesla charge port when the connector is in proximity, minimizing any manual effort required during the charging process.
The integration of the Universal Wall Connector with the Tesla app is another highlight. By connecting the wall connector to a local Wi-Fi network, users gain the ability to control, schedule, and monitor their charging remotely. This functionality also enables over-the-air updates, ensuring that the connector's firmware is always up to date. It's important to note that while the app features are expected to launch later this year, they promise to enhance the overall charging experience.
Flexibility for Every Setting
The Universal Wall Connector's design is both versatile and resilient, making it suitable for both indoor and outdoor installations. Its adaptability is further enhanced by the availability of variable amperage configurations, which can be adjusted based on the specific installation location. This flexibility extends to the ability to power-share with up to six Wall Connectors, catering to households with multiple EVs or charging needs.
A Boost for Commercial Properties
For commercial properties like hotels, apartments, and workplaces, the Universal Wall Connector brings exciting opportunities. By installing the connector as a public or private amenity, property managers and real estate owners can tap into pay-per-use functionality. This, coupled with 24/7 remote monitoring and fast charging capabilities, presents a compelling incentive for attracting customers and enhancing property value.
Easy Installation and Peace of Mind
Installation of the Universal Wall Connector is a straightforward process, but it requires the expertise of a qualified electrician. Tesla's Find a Certified Installer page connects customers with over 1,000 Tesla Certified Installers, ensuring a seamless setup experience.
With residential use in mind, Tesla offers a four-year warranty for the Universal Wall Connector, providing users with peace of mind and confidence in their investment.
A Competitive Offering
Considering its robust set of features and capabilities, the Universal Wall Connector is competitively priced at $595.00, making it an attractive option for EV owners seeking efficient, reliable, and cost-effective charging solutions.
As Tesla continues to lead the charge in innovative EV technologies, the Universal Wall Connector stands as a testament to the company's commitment to driving the adoption of electric vehicles and making charging more accessible and convenient for everyone.
In an era where sustainable transportation is gaining momentum, Tesla's new Universal Wall Connector is poised to play a pivotal role in shaping the future of EV charging, providing a bridge between various electric vehicle brands and paving the way for a cleaner, greener world on wheels. I think one reason Tesla…
I think one reason Tesla adopted the CICS/NAS approach may be that there are many existing CICS EVs and many more will be sold in the next few years before manufacturers convert their offerings to NACS. Tesla does not want to exclude its
Universal Wall Connector from this market. I currently use a Tesla mobile charger and a TeslaTap NACS to CICS adaptor to charge my Genesis GV70 EV.
