The folks at Roush have rolled out all of the details for their 2017 P-51 package and with 727 horsepower, it is the most powerful road-going Roush Mustang in the storied history of the high performance tuning company.
We got our first look at the new Roush P-51 Mustang back at the 2016 SEMA Show, but last November, we only got some basic preliminary numbers. This weekend, the team at Roush rolled out the full details on their newest high performance Mustang package and with 727 horsepower – the new P-51 is the most powerful Roush Mustang ever.
Best of all, this package is available on a pre-title basis, making it unique from other tuning packages, as it can be ordered directly from an authorized Ford dealership, complete with the factory warranty.
The 2017 Roush P-51 Mustang
The 2017 Roush P-51 package is built on the 2017 Ford Mustang GT, but rather than 435hp and 400lb-ft of torque, the P-51-equipped Mustang GT offers 727 horsepower and 610lb-ft of torque – making the 2017 P-51 the most powerful package from Roush ever for a Mustang road car. This big power is achieved by fitting the 5.0L V8 with a Roush Phase 2 supercharger package, featuring a 2.3L Eaton supercharger with an integrated intercooler, a new throttle body, a beefed up fuel system, a Roush high performance quad outlet exhaust system and an engine tune to bring it all together.
The 2017 Roush P-51 package is available with the manual or automatic transmission and all of these 727hp Mustangs will also be equipped with heavy duty “TrakPak” half shafts to help put the power to the unique 19 inch Roush TrakPak wheels.
Next, the handling capabilities of the 2017 Ford Mustang GT are improved with a 3-way adjustable Roush coilover suspension system and a high performance Brembo braking package, so while the 727hp V8 makes the Roush P-51 Mustang a rocket in a straight line – it will also handle like it is on a rail.
Finally, the 2017 Roush P-51 Ford Mustang package adds a unique look inside and out.
On the inside, the P-51 package adds “Amaretto Tuscany” leather performance seats and matching leather trim elsewhere in the cabin, a P-51 gauge logo, a red ROUSH shifter ball, ROUSH Performance pedals, and a P-51 interior plaque.
On the outside, the 2017 Roush P-51 Mustang has a uniquely vented hood, an aggressive front fascia with a new chin spoiler, a new upper and lower grille insert, new side scoops, aggressive side sills, quarter window scoops, a new carbon fiber decklid spoiler, the new lower diffuser and the aforementioned wheels. Also, as you might expect, the new Roush P-51 Mustang has unique badging and paint, giving it the look of the fighter plane after which it was named.
Pricing and Availability
The 2017 Roush P-51 Ford Mustang package will be limited to just – you might have guessed it – 51 units and with a base package price of $42,500, this package is not cheap. When you factor in the $34,095 base price of the 2017 Mustang GT coupe with the manual transmission, the Roush P-51 Mustang will cost buyers at least $76,595.
However, for a 727 horsepower Mustang with a unique look and upgraded handling capabilities – all with a factory warranty – the new Roush P-51 is the best option on the market.
