Ford Motor Company has announced that the 2018 Mustang GT with the GT Performance Package will be outfitted with Michelin Pilot Sport 4S tires, which should offer considerable advantages in grip on launch and while cornering compared to the tires on the 2017 Ford Mustang GT.
Ford Motor Company announced earlier this year that the 2018 Ford Mustang GT with the new 10-speed automatic transmission and the GT Performance Package would dash from 0-60 miles per hour in “under 60 seconds”. We knew that the 2018 GT Performance Package included high performance tires, but with this recent announcement, we learned that those sticky tires will be the Michelin Pilot Sport 4S tires. These tires should make a considerable difference compared to the Pirelli tires on the 2017 Mustang GT, as the Pilot Sport 4S replaces the popular Pilot Super Sport – so these new tires will be among the best offered on any road car in America.
Michelin Pilot Sport 4S on the 2018 Mustang GT
The 2018 Ford Mustang GT with the new GT Performance Package will feature Michelin Pilot Sport 4S tires, which were introduced at the 2017 North American International Auto Show in Detroit as the replacement for the popular Michelin Pilot Super Sport. These tires should prove to be among the best high performance road tires offered from the factory on any car when it comes to all-out performance, but they also come with a 30,000-mile warranty. By the way, here are 3 ways the new 10-speed Automatic improves the 2018 Ford Mustang.
The 2018 Ford Mustang GT with the GT Performance Package will wear Pilot Sport 4S tires measuring 255/40/19 up front while the rears are 275/40/19, and those wider rear tires will play a key role in getting the 460hp Mustang from a stop to 60mph in less than 4 seconds. These tires were developed by Michelin specifically for the new Mustang GT while the Motor Company was working with the tire company on the rubber for the Shelby GT350R and the new Ford GT supercar. The Michelin tires on the Mustang GT aren’t quite as extreme as the Pilot Sport Cup 2 tires on the GT350R, but they will make a huge difference in terms of grip for the 2018 Mustang GT.
When the first 2018 Ford Mustang GT hits the street with the Michelin Pilot Sport 4S tires, it will be the first car to come with those rollers from the factory in the US market.
In addition to the Michelin tires, the 2018 Mustang GT Performance Package includes huge Brembo six-piston brakes up front, a Torsen limited slip differential, unique springs and lightweight wheels – with an MSRP of $3,995.
Also, while the 2018 Ford Mustang EcoBoost has a Performance Package of its own, the Michelin Pilot Sport 4S tires will not be included in the go-fast package for the turbocharger 4-cylinder models.
The 2018 Ford Mustang should begin reaching dealership soon, although the exact date has not yet been officially announced.
