Last week we brought you a leaked look at the 2018 Ford Mustang with the new Carbon Sport Interior Package and this week, the Motor Company has offered up information on the 2018 Mustang Pony Package – which brings vintage cues to the turbocharged base model pony car.

Since the Ford Mustang was introduced back in 1964, the running pony on the grille has spent time in a chrome corral with various models over the legendary life of the car. The “pony-in-corral” design returns for 2018 as part of the Pony Package for the EcoBoost Mustang, marking the first time that this badge design has been available since the 2015 anniversary edition models.

2018 Ford Mustang EcoBoost Pony Package
As shown in the image above, the 2018 Ford Mustang EcoBoost will be offered with the newest Pony Package, featuring the pony-in-corral grille design. The Pony Package has been offered in various forms over the years as well, generally serving as a dress-up package for the base model Mustang, and that is true for 2018 as well. The Pony Package is only available with the Mustang EcoBoost, so you cannot get this package or this grille design on the 2018 Mustang GT with the 5.0L V8.

In addition to the pony-in-corral grille design, the 2018 Ford Mustang EcoBoost Pony Package includes aggressive 19 inch aluminum wheels with a bright mirrored finish, chrome trim around the side windows (fastback only), side stripes with the Mustang font logo along the lower edge of the car, and the tri-bar running pony badge on the rear of the car on the outside, with unique embroidered floormats with the pony logo on the inside.

Ford doesn’t actually state that the 2018 Ford Mustang Pony Package is available for the fastback and the convertible, as the convertible isn’t mentioned anywhere in the statement, but since the company specifies that the chrome window trim is fastback-only, the availability of a Pony Package for the convertibles is implied.

In short, with a chrome pony-in-corral grille design with chrome bars running through the middle, chrome wheels and chrome trim – the 2018 Pony Package gives the turbocharged Mustang a classic chrome look.

We don’t know how much the Pony Package will add to the base price of the 2018 Ford Mustang EcoBoost, nor do we have pricing for the 2018 models, but with the 2018 model year car expected to reach dealerships in October, we should have full information very soon.
