The folks at Whipple Superchargers have offered up the first bit of information on their upcoming 2015 Ford Mustang GT supercharger package and while the company has stated any exact power figures – simple math suggests that Whipple will likely push the 2015 Mustang GT up to 700 horsepower and maybe even beyond that lofty number.
The supercharger that Whipple is developing for the 2015 Ford Mustang GT, named the W175FFAX, is bigger than the Whipple unit currently at use in the 2014 Mustang GT supercharger package from Ford Racing, measuring 2.9L for the 2015 Mustang while the current Mustang GT package features a 2.3L supercharger setup. This new, bigger supercharger features Whipple’s unique front feed design which is more efficient than rear feed twin screw superchargers while the simple volume of this 2015 Mustang GT allows it to force 26% more air into the engine than the Eaton 2.3L supercharger. This added blower displacement leads to added power and Whipple expects that the new 2.9L supercharger will add 280 horsepower to the 2015 Ford Mustang GT.
Ford hasn’t announced the power figures for the 5.0L V8 of the 2015 Mustang GT, but they have promised that it will pack at least 420 horsepower. The current 2014 Mustang GT packs 420 horsepower so all Ford has told us is that the next generation Mustang GT won’t have less power than the current models. Provided that Ford sticks with the same power numbers for the 2015 GT, this new Whipple supercharger package will lift the output of the S550 Mustang up to 700 horsepower. For comparison, the 2014 Ford Mustang GT with the Whipple/Ford Racing supercharger package offers 624 horsepower so this larger supercharger allows for an extra 76 horsepower over the current setup.
Most impressively, the Whipple W175FFAX supercharger for the 2015 Ford Mustang GT doesn’t require any additional upgrades outside of what is offered with the package (high-flow fuel injectors, aluminum high flow intake manifold, oversized intercooler reservoir, 6-rib belt, supercharger) and it will hit those amazing power numbers on 91 octane fuel. Do you know what that means? That means that the Whipple W175FFAX supercharger will make even more power with higher octane fuel and other modifications outside of what is included in the package from Whipple. That 700hp figure with 91 octane fuel is likely a “safe” tune for so many stock components so those 2015 Mustang GT owners who are looking to spend some extra money to build onto the Whipple W175FFAX package will likely be seeing power numbers well above 700 horsepower.
The 2015 Ford Mustang GT will be one of the quickest stock cars sold in America when it arrives later this year while also likely being the fastest car ever named the Mustang GT. However, in the world of high performance muscle cars, there is no such thing as enough horsepower so this new Whipple package that brings over 700 horsepower to the owner of the 2015 Mustang could go a long way in enticing new owners to purchase the mighty Mustang.
