Ford will offer the Mondeo in a new Titanium trim line, which will get an EcoBoost turbocharged four-cylinder engine and a six-speed manual gearbox to become the fastest Mondeo ever.
Ford of Europe has added an EcoBoost engine to the Mondeo lineup, with a 2.0L turbocharged 4cyl engine offering either 203PS in the Titanium model or 240PS in the Titanium S model. Either engine is available with a six-speed manual transmission, and the high-powered Titanium S is now the fastest Mondeo Ford has ever sold, with a 0-62 time of 7.3 seconds and a top speed of 155mph.
The Ford Mondeo EcoBoost will go on sale later this year in Germany, The Netherlands, and Switzerland, with availability throughout the rest of Europe yet to be determined. The turbocharged and direct-injected EcoBoost engine will be assembled in Ford's Genk assembly plant in Belgium. Of course, no version of the Mondeo is slated to make it to the United States anytime soon.
Ford says the EcoBoosted Mondeo will not only be the fastest Mondeo ever, but one of the most fuel-efficient, with a combined fuel economy rating of 37mpg. That is a huge improvement over the last hot Mondeo, the ST220, with a 3.0L V6 that made 226PS... 14 less than the new four-banger. "This car will turn some heads on the autobahn," said Ford of Europe's brand manager Klaus Scherzer.
Ford has said that the S-Max compact minivan (very similar to the Mazda5) will also be offered in Titanium and Titanium S models with the same EcoBoost engine and six-speed manual gearbox. No pricing has been announced on either model, however.
