Mazda and its U.S. dealership network want to give U.S. healthcare workers all the help they can. That now includes a free oil change and enhanced vehicle cleaning free of charge.
Mazda North American Operations (MNAO) announced today that it will provide free standard oil changes and enhanced cleaning services for U.S. healthcare workers at its participating dealers nationwide. The program begins tomorrow, April 16th. Here is the fine print that jumped out at us – You don’t have to own a Mazda vehicle. Rather, Mazda is offering this program to any healthcare worker with any normal passenger vehicle.

Torque News spoke to Boston-area Oncologist, and occasional Torque News guest writer, Dr. Hande Tuncer. In addition to her traditional practice, Dr. Tuncer is coordinating work on a new drug trial in conjunction with a leading pharmaceutical manufacturer and her hospital. The study will determine if an affordable cancer drug can help reduce the severity of COVID-19 symptoms in patients with acute respiratory distress. She told us, "As a healthcare worker and a Mazda CX-5 owner, this is a program that I appreciate. The folks at Liberty Mazda where I service my vehicle always do a great job."
This outreach to support healthcare workers during the COVID-19 pandemic is courtesy of the Essential Car Care program developed by the Mazda dealer network. In total, the program will donate $5 million in vehicle services to healthcare workers. “Supporting the communities where we live and work is rooted deeply in Mazda’s 100-year history. We are honored to give back to those dedicated to saving lives during this pandemic,” MNAO President Jeff Guyton said. “We understand the important role vehicles play in people’s lives, and by partnering with our dealer network, we hope to make a meaningful impact in communities around the country.”
This program was expanded after local Mazda dealers began to offer free-of-charge service to healthcare workers engaged in the fight against the pandemic. “Mazda dealers prioritize giving back to the communities in which they operate,” Jim McDonald, Mazda’s National Dealer Advisory Council Chairman said. “In this challenging time, we want to do what we can to support our local healthcare workers. We deeply appreciate all they have done and will continue to do in the fight against COVID-19.”
To help ensure the safety of healthcare workers and service employees, dealers participating in the Essential Car Care initiative have committed to enhanced vehicle cleaning. This includes using Mazda and EPA-approved cleansers on the high-touch interior and exterior surfaces. Mazda dealers are also to following the recommendations from the CDC and local public health and government officials to help ensure the safety of both its workers and customers in the service areas.
Call ahead to your local Mazda dealer to be sure they are participating and to check on hours of operation. Bring your work ID or paystub. Each healthcare worker will be allowed one free oil change and enhanced cleaning service. Mazda expects the program to last about three weeks. I read this article,
I read this article, obviously drawn in, by the phrase "You Won't Believe the Fine Print". Well I went to the Mazda website. I followed a link that took me to the "Essential Car Care Fact Sheet2" page. I read the page. I find nothing unbelievable about it. The sheet specifies the people, organizations, and vehicles that are eligible for this service. Kudos to Mazda. The vehicles excluded are exotic cars, classic cars, off-road vehicles, vehicles with over 8-quart capacity, or vehicles with special manufacturers requirements. These excluded vehicles sometimes require special tools, oils, expertise to work on these vehicles. Once again, kudos to Mazda for recognizing vehicles that have special servicing needs.
I hope the title of this article is meant to disparage Mazda. They are certainly going above and beyond with this service.
Hi Jesse. We explain in the
Hi Jesse. We explain in the third sentence of this story which part of the fine print surprised us. When we wrote this story on Mazda's generosity our only concern was it being misinterpreted an "advertisement" for Mazda. Thank you for putting our minds at rest. Be well.
Thanks Mazda, I signed up
Thanks Mazda, I signed up today for the oil change for my CX-5 that is due. I think this is very generous of Mazda, and hope it is not too much headache for them to get all the oil filters for so many manufacturer's cars. Too bad the showroom won't be open by me so folks can experience a Mazda while they get their oil change.
Still, for someone working in the middle of the pandemic, I appreciate Mazda's, and other business' efforts to support us in these trying times.

I got my free oil change
I got my free oil change today, I had to pay just over $17, which was a little surprising considering everything I read said it was free, but I needed an oil change and I drive a Mazda so I would have gone to the dealership anyway.
I would like to say Thank you
I would like to say Thank you guys for taking the time to do such an incredible job for us health care workers we really appreciate it. It means so much to us during this pandemic. I'm grateful for Mazda Dealership ❤️❤️❤️❤️
