The 2020 Subaru Crosstrek comes with technology like luxury brands Cadillac Mercedes-Benz, and Tesla. See what Subaru offers for half the cost.

Remember when you first bought a smartphone? The technology was new and different, but once you got used to it, you asked yourself how you ever lived without it? It will be the same as the technology offered on luxury cars like Cadillac, Mercedes-Benz, and Tesla. Cadillac has one of the very best autonomous systems, and for more money, a new Mercedes-Benz or Tesla has, even more driving safety aids for consumers.

When you realize how this technology can protect you and your family in the event of a crash, you won’t buy another car without it. But you don’t have to buy an expensive luxury car to get it. The base 2020 Subaru Crosstrek ($25,900) comes with the brand’s highly-rated EyeSight driver assist technology. It’s rated highest by the IIHS as similar systems on the more expensive Cadillac CT6 ($75,720), Mercedes-Benz E-Class ($54,050), and Tesla Model 3 ($45,690 with advanced Autopilot).

2020 Subaru Crosstrek comes standard with EyeSight

The Subaru brand offers an affordable lineup of all-wheel-drive SUVs that rank highest is safety. Subaru’s new 2020 Crosstrek, Outback, Forester, and Ascent all come equipped with EyeSight safety technology. As a stand-alone feature, Subaru EyeSight costs $1,395, where the Tesla Model 3 Autopilot with full self-driving capacity adds another $7,000 to the price.

The 2020 Subaru Crosstrek’s automatic braking and will stop the car if you’re about to hit a car or pedestrian. It also comes with automatic steering to keep the car in its lane, and cruise control that adjusts to traffic, and you don’t have to pay extra to get it. None of this technology is new, as Subaru Corporation began developing it in 1989 and started equipping its all-wheel-drive vehicles with EyeSight in 1999.

Advanced technology is standard on most models like Crosstrek

To be fair, the Mercedes-Benz Distronic and Tesla Autopilot do all of this better in one specific way. With Subaru’s EyeSight, if the adaptive cruise control brings you to a complete stop, you have to tap the gas pedal or hit the resume button on the steering wheel to start the vehicle moving again. Mercedes-Benz and Tesla systems will resume driving without any input.

It’s a small advantage that Subaru will likely add to the next-generation EyeSight technology. Car shoppers can get a base 2020 Subaru Crosstrek ($25,900) with the highest scoring EyeSight technology as more expensive luxury brands Cadillac, Mercedes-Benz, and Tesla. One day all cars will come with it and you’ll wonder how you ever lived with it.

You can keep the adaptive cruise engaged the entire time by waiting until it starts announcing its pending disengagement and tap up or down on the set /resume button. You get about 7 seconds before it will announce pending disengagement again. I've don't this for miles and miles of stop and go traffic
