What are Subaru's all-electric vehicle plans for the future? Subaru executives were involved in a high-level meeting with Biden this week to discuss a national network of chargers.
The 2023 Subaru Solterra all-electric SUV begins to arrive this summer for U.S. customers lucky enough to get one of the first models. Interest has been high for Subaru's first-ever electric all-wheel-drive vehicle. In ongoing efforts to improve charging for EVs in America, senior officials with the Biden Administration met with high-level executives from the automobile industry to discuss a national network of 500,000 chargers.
Along with Subaru, executives from Tesla, Ford, Stellantis, General Motors, Lucid, Nissan, Hyundai, Mazda, Toyota, Mercedes-Benz, and Kia participated in the meeting.
Last year, Congress approved $7.5 billion in government funding for electric vehicle charging stations. Still, legislation for new tax incentives to purchase and build EVs did not make it to the finish line.
Subaru of America partners with EVgo
In advance of the new Solterra arriving this summer, Subaru has a partnership with EVgo, the nation's largest public fast-charging network for electric vehicles. In February, Subaru of America announced it would provide Solterra EV customers access to a public charging network of over 46,000 locations.
Solterra owners will be able to access more than 800 public fast-charging locations and 1,200+ L2 charging stalls spanning 68 metropolitan areas and 35 states.
Subaru says EVgo is the first public EV fast-charging network in the U.S. to be powered by 100 percent renewable energy. Please check out EVgo here for more information and learn about the new EVgo mobile app and its reward program.
What is Subaru's EV plan for the future?
Subaru of America CEO and President Tom Doll released a statement via Facebook saying President Biden's 50 Percent EVs By 2030 executive order is ambitious.
In a recent report from Automotive News, Subaru Corporation CEO Tomomi Nakamura says its target of 40 percent electrified vehicles by mid-2025 to 2030 was made two years ago. They will now rethink their electrification goals.
Nakamura says, "We know that we have to shift or accelerate this plan. Based on how the market receives the new Solterra EV, we can plan what kind of ratios (50-60 percent) we should target for EVs and hybrids."
Subaru and Subaru Tecnica International unveiled a surprise all-electric STI E-RA performance sports car at the Tokyo Motor Show that will be the forerunner to more electric vehicles coming from Subaru.
Subaru's core value is all-wheel-drive, and Subaru Corporation and STI will develop the technology using a four-wheel independent all-wheel-drive technology with four-wheel torque vectoring. The tech will be the basis for all-electric STI sports cars and electrified all-wheel-drive SUVs like the Forester, Outback, and Crosstrek. Stay tuned.
