The new 2020 Honda Civic Arrives and it will be hot with first-time buyers, millennials, and a multi-cultural generation. See why Honda hit a grand slam.
The new 2020 Honda Civic is arriving now at dealer showrooms and it’s a grand slam for Honda before they open the doors. Honda has positioned itself in a very good place with first-time buyers, millennials, and a multi-cultural generation because most other automakers have told this group they don’t matter.
Honda also has the CR-V, Pilot, and Passport SUVs but still offers the small compact Civic when the competition from Ford is dropping their small sedan lineup. And it’s paying off big for the Japanese automaker and it also benefits shoppers looking for an affordable, fuel-efficient, yet attractive car. Honda is also giving customers the best deals on the new Civic.
It helps that Honda offers Civic in so many different trim levels not just one model for first-time buyers. Shoppers can get five trim levels in sedan alone and then they offer Civic in two more body styles, coupe, and hatchback. If that’s not enough, performance fans can get the hotter Civic Si and the hot hatch Civic Type R.
Two engines are available, a standard 2.0-liter naturally-aspirated model and then a 1.5-liter turbocharged option. You can still get Civic with a 6-speed manual gearbox or a continuously variable automatic transmission.
Now all Civic trims come with the Honda Sensing suite of active safety features that were previously a $1,000 option on all trims except Touring. The driver-assist technology includes adaptive cruise control, forward collision warning with automatic emergency braking, lane departure warning, lane keep assist, road departure mitigation and, for 2019, automatic high-beam headlights.
With so many trim options, which one is the best value?
The Civic will be purchased by a younger generation who will want the latest smartphone connectivity. In order to get Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, you will need to move up from base models to Sport and higher trim levels. We like the EX trim ($24,630) because you can get the 1.5-liter turbocharged engine that delivers better performance and also gets improved fuel mileage (32 city/42 highway/36 combined) over the 2.0-liter normally-aspirated powerplant.
For the extra $2,250 price premium over the Sport model in addition to the turbocharged engine, you also get a standard automatic transmission, the LaneWatch camera technology, a power moonroof, and heated front seats. Whatever 2020 Honda Civic trim level you choose, you will be getting Honda’s historically good reliability and quality. Honda hit a grand slam with the Civic and it’s why the compact car is the hottest car that’s not an SUV.
