With Subaru stepping up its electric model time frame, will customers see a next-generation 2024 Forester all-electric compact SUV? See why Forester could be Subaru's next new EV.
When will Subaru launch its next all-electric model? Subaru Corporation said recently they would offer "new strong hybrid vehicles scheduled for release in the mid-2020s." These will likely be the next-generation Subaru Forester in 2024, Ascent SUV in 2024, and Outback in 2025.
Subaru will develop the new hybrid technology with Toyota, similar to the current Crosstrek Hybrid available in the U.S. market. The technology will differ from the e-Boxer Forester hybrid offered in Japan, Australia, and Europe.
When will Subaru offer an all-electric Forester?
The first-ever all-electric Subaru Solterra SUV will be available in the U.S. this summer, and it's time for more new electric models from Subaru Corporation. The Solterra was an instant success and sold out in the first 72 hours. A new Forester EV would likely be a big hit with Subaru's faithful.
Subaru should have already measured public acceptance of its first-ever all-electric SUV and know they need to add more electric models to the all-wheel-drive lineup.
Subaru Corporation initially said they would launch new Forester, Outback, Crosstrek, and Ascent EVs, but not until the early 2030s, but could accelerate that timeframe now.
Subaru Corporation launched a newly-established Electrified Vehicle Manufacturing Engineering and Electrified Manufacturing Division effective April 1, 2022. It could mean they are ramping up electrified model development.
Subaru stated in May 2021 in its mid-term management vision statement; that it will contribute to achieving a carbon-free society with Subaru's strengths and technological innovation. The automaker will accomplish this with "highly responsive electric motors, Subaru's all-wheel-drive capability and driving dynamics will be further enhanced."
With other automakers like Honda and Mazda ramping up new electric model development, Subaru will need to keep pace with the competition or get left behind. Subaru is holding an ace with Toyota now, accelerating new EV development, which the Japanese automaker will share with Subaru now that Toyota owns a 20 percent stake in Subaru Corporation.
Subaru's following new EV won't be a joint venture with Toyota like the Solterra EV. It will be a separate model and possibly the next-generation Forester or a newly-developed all-wheel-drive model.
Subaru's next all-electric model will come with the automaker's core values of all-wheel-drive, vehicle safety, fun-to-drive, off-road capability, and extra ground clearance.
Subaru of America will likely introduce the next-generation Subaru Forester in 2024, Ascent SUV in 2024, and Outback in 2025 with new hybrid technology. The new Forester could be the automaker's next all-electric SUV in the mid-2020s. Stay tuned.
