Nissan just released a teaser of the new Nissan LEAF. Would you buy one if it looks like this?
The Nissan LEAF is getting a whole new image and it could be a boon for the all-electric car if it looks like the teaser image Nissan released today. Nissan needs to compete with the new Tesla Model 3 and this could be the car to do it. The Nissan LEAF is falling behind in U.S. EV sales and the Japanese automaker needs to do something with the LEAF or it will be left behind.
The current LEAF is 6th in EV sales for 2017, and is behind the Tesla Model S, Chevy Volt, Tesla Model X, Toyota Prius Prime and Chevy Bolt. It needs a complete remodel to compete and this new teaser shows much improved aerodynamic body styling Nissan says will make the LEAF even more efficient, allowing drivers to travel farther on a single charge.
Nissan says, having less drag and better stability will make it shoot through the air easier enabling the new vehicle to drive longer distances before having to recharge. This completely revamped new-generation LEAF will be lower to the ground, giving it zero lift for better stability at high speeds. Nissan engineers designed the EV with significantly improved stability when it’s hit by strong winds.
The new-generation LEAF gets its inspiration from airplane wings, Nissan says will give it a symmetric air flow helping it “slice through the air for a smoother, more efficient journey.”
Even with the LEAF’s high customer satisfaction and widespread availability, the Nissan LEAF has been falling behind in sales and needs a complete remodel. It looks like Nissan is up to the challenge. If this teaser shows a true representation of the new-generation LEAF, it could be a major player with the Tesla Model 3. Stay tuned.
