Subaru announced production of the 2023 Forester and 2023 Crosstrek is up again. See what it means for U.S. customers in 2023.
There is good news for Subaru customers waiting for a 2023 Subaru Crosstrek or Forester. Subaru Corporation announced that production at its Gunma plant in Japan, where they manufacture the Forester compact SUV and Crosstrek subcompact SUV, is up 9.8 percent, the eighth consecutive month of increase.
The production increases at its Japanese plant signal that the worst could be over, affecting the new model backorders and customers buying a new model this winter and 2023.

Subaru of America still has the tightest new car inventory among car brands in the U.S., but things continue to improve. Customers who order a new all-wheel-drive 2023 Subaru Forester, 2023 Crosstrek, WRX, or BRZ will see delivery times shorten.
Crosstrek and Forester are two top-selling models for Subaru of America (SOA), with the hot Crosstrek leading the Camden, N.J. automaker's lineup, followed by the Outback and Forester. Subaru Corporation reports that production of the Forester and Crosstrek in Japan is still trending up, and in Japan, it is now up 17.2 percent for the year.

Subaru says the export total of new Forester and Crosstrek SUVs to the U.S. is up 24.0 percent in November. This is the fourth consecutive month of export increase of new models and is now up 10.1 percent for the year.
What about the 2023 Subaru Outback?
The news could be better for customers waiting or buying a new 2023 Outback this winter. The latest report from Subaru shows the production of the 2023 Outback in the U.S. plant in Lafayette, Indiana, decreased 5.2 percent in November. It's the first production decrease in the U.S. in four months, but it is still up 8.9 percent for the year. The production decrease is due to a shortage of new parts at Subaru of Indiana Automotive.

Subaru Corporation has to fill new Forester and Crosstrek orders for its U.S. customers, along with Japan, Australia, Canada, and Europe. A recent report says Subaru has a backlog of 100,000 back orders worldwide, many of which are new Forester compact SUVs and Crosstrek compact SUVs. About 50,000 customers in the U.S. are also waiting for a new Subaru Forester, Outback, Crosstrek, and other new models to be delivered.
When will the next-generation Subaru Crosstrek and Impreza be available?
Subaru of America has yet to announce when the next-generation 2024 Crosstrek subcompact SUV will be available. The all-new 2024 Impreza compact hatchback will be available for customers at U.S. retailers spring of 2023.
The 2023 Subaru Forester, 2023 Crosstrek, 2023 Outback, 2023 Ascent, Impreza, and Legacy are now at U.S. retailers. Forester and Crosstrek customers in the U.S. should see significantly improved wait times for their new model to arrive from Japan. The newly-upgraded 2023 Subaru Outback availability will decline to start the new year.
