Some 2021 Subaru Impreza compact cars are at risk of a lower control arm weld failing. See if your vehicle is one of the cars on the do not drive recall list.
Subaru of America has issued a do not drive notice and recall on certain 2021 Subaru Impreza compact sedan and hatchback models. This notice and recall could potentially involve 802 model year 2021 Impreza vehicles. The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) says a lower control arm weld on the front driver’s side may fail on affected vehicles.
What is the risk if owners drive the impacted vehicles?
The NHTSA says if the weld fails, the tire could contact the wheel well, resulting in a loss of control and increasing the risk of a crash. Subaru of America has not released any other information on the 2021 Subaru Impreza recall. Subaru says there have been no accidents or injuries due to this issue.
What should Impreza owners do?
2021 Subaru Impreza owners can visit NHTSA.gov/recalls or call NHTSA’s Vehicle Safety Hotline at 888-327-4236 and enter their 17-digit vehicle identification number to see if their vehicle is under recall.
Impreza was involved in earlier recalls
The 2021 Impreza was recalled in January because a loose nut could lead to a loss of retention in the CVT select lever cable and the gear selector not functioning correctly, increasing the risk of a crash.
The 2017-2019 Impreza model year vehicles were included in a more recent recall this year. Subaru needed to check and update the engine control module (ECM) programming and replace all ignition coils. The ignition coils could, over time, degrade and cause starting or stalling issues.
Subaru of America began the 2017-2019 Impreza recall on May 14, 2021. If your car has not been in for the repair, Subaru retailers will check and update the engine control module (ECM) programming and replace all ignition coils if necessary free of charge.
Will Subaru notify owners of the new Impreza recall?
Subaru has not said when the 2021 Impreza recall will start or issued a recall number, but owners will be contacted my mail. Owners may contact Subaru’s customer service at 844-373-6614. If Impreza owners’ vehicles are one of the vehicles in this recall, the owner should not drive the car until the vehicle is inspected by an authorized Subaru retailer. Torque News will bring any new information when it is announced.
