Subaru Says New Solterra EV Sells Out In The First 72 Hours

Can you still buy the new 2023 Subaru Soltarra EV? Reservations closed, and Subaru confirmed the all-electric SUV sold out in the first 72 hours.

The all-new electric 2023 Subaru Solterra online reservation system is officially closed, and customers who want one will have to wait another year to get one. Subaru of America (SOA) closed the Solterra reservation system on February 28, 2022, and confirmed the new EV sold out in the first 72 hours.

Planet Subaru said most Subaru of America's retailers filled their reservations within a few days of the system going live. SOA gave Planet Subaru fifteen reservations, and customers took them within minutes of the system opening.

Can you still buy a 2023 Subaru Solterra?

If you put in a reservation, it was first come, first served. If someone from the retailer you selected decides they want their $250 deposit back and does not want to keep their place in line, the next person moves up. If you were one of the first to put in a reservation, you could still get a new all-electric 2023 Solterra compact SUV.

Why is the Solterra all-electric model in short supply?

With the supply chain issues and microchip shortages, production of the 2023 model year Solterra will be limited. Reports say Subaru Corporation will produce fewer than 10,000 Solterra models for the entire calendar year 2022. Subaru of America has not said how many new EVs will be available for U.S. customers.

The Subaru Solterra is manufactured alongside the bZ4X EV at the Toyota plant in Japan, so Subaru has less control over the number they can produce. A new report from Automotive News says Toyota has targeted just 60,000 bZ4X EVs worldwide in 2022, and then a decline to about 50,000 in 2023.

When can you buy a new Solterra?

If you aren't on the reservation list, customers will have to wait until 2023 to find a new model. Planet Subaru says they expect supplies of the Solterra to increase in 2023 when the 2024 models arrive.

What is the price of the 2023 Subaru Solterra?

The 2023 Solterra is offered in three trim levels for U.S. customers. Subaru has not released pricing on the Solterra, but the new EV will likely be priced around $40,000 for the base trim and could approach $50,000 for the fully-loaded Touring trim level. What do Solterra reservation holders do now?

Subaru says, "Once pricing is announced, you will be notified to contact your retailer to finalize your order. During this time, you will have the opportunity to discuss any changes with your retailer. After the sold order is finalized, it cannot be changed."

When does the first 2023 Solterra arrive at Subaru of Americas' retailers?

Subaru's first-ever battery-electric vehicle should arrive in U.S. showrooms this summer in June or July. With the 2023 Subaru Soterra in high demand, Subaru of America confirms its allotment for the 2023 model year sold out in the first 72 hours.
