Are you shopping for a new 2024 Subaru Forester or 2024 Outback? It could be the perfect time now. See why a perfect storm is brewing.
There is something unique happening at Subaru of America right now. Let me say that there is a perfect storm for customers looking to buy a new 2024 Subaru Forester, 2024 Outback, or another new model right now.
Let’s review what I would call the perfect storm.
Three significant events are affecting pricing and how Subaru retailers deal with customers. First, I see Subaru’s inventory increasing. Second, because of the economy and high interest rates, demand for new cars is down. Third, I’ve seen Subaru retailers ready to make a deal.
It’s a matter of supply and demand.
The 2024 Subaru Crosstrek subcompact SUV and 2024 Impreza compact hatchback both received a remodel, and yet they are still significantly down in 2024. There should be more inventory of these models right now.
From what I’ve seen recently, Subaru wants to move the 2024 Forester and 2024 Outback. SOA is offering special financing now on both SUVs. Something I haven’t seen in the two decades I’ve been covering Subaru.
It’s good news if you are buying a performance model.
The 2024 Subaru WRX performance sedan and 2024 Subaru BRZ sport coupe were remodeled for the 2022 model year. Those performance models have decreased the most of any of SOA’s nameplates. You may be able to get a good deal.
Subaru's Ascent 3-Row SUV and Legacy midsize sedan are due for remodels in 2025, so Subaru wants to move all remaining 2024 models this year.
I think these things are important for Subaru customers to know.
As I’ve said, Subaru’s inventory is improving. Customers can find new 2024 models on Subaru retailers’ lots. This should help sales in March and April.
Subaru is offering discounts, special financing, and manufacturer incentives on models they want to sell now, including the Forester and Outback. So, from what I’ve seen, it’s a good time to buy.
The 2024 Subaru Crosstrek is still a hot model, and you may not get below sticker pricing on some subcompact SUV trims. The Sport and Wilderness are hot trim levels. Subaru likely has more Base and Premium trims. They could be the best models to buy now.
The 2024 Subaru Impreza compact hatch and 2024 Legacy midsize sedan are selling below MSRP now. You could get the best deal on these two models this spring.
But overall, I would say it’s the best time to buy any Subaru model now. It’s a perfect storm and a buyer's market for the first time in a long time.

How so and what model transmissions are failing in which Suburu vehicles?

I hope u enjoyed this used subaru report? Thought u were talking new.
Subaru's are junk cars out…
Subaru's are junk cars out of the 4 I have owned.. The last 2 transmissions have gone out before 50000 miles. Don't ever buy a Subaru.
My wife and I have owned 10…
My wife and I have owned 10 Subaru. From a 1986 GL, 2 Legacies, 2 Outback, 2 Imprezas, a WRX, a Forester and a 2024 crosstrek. I haven't had any problems with any of them. If you do the maintenance like Subaru recommend your car will last. I will never own anything else.
I own a 2005 Subaru Forester…
I own a 2005 Subaru Forester. It has 2014.00 miles on it. It runs as good as the day I bought it. I bought it at 74 thousand miles on it. You are right, if you maintain them they last forever. I also now own a 2015 Forester. Love this one as well. I also bought this one used at 12300 miles. It was pristine when I purchased it, you could eat off the door jams. White seats that didn’t have a single stain on them. Love both of them. I wouldn’t own any other vehicle out there.
Not my experience at all!…
Not my experience at all!
Bought a "certified" used 2016 Forester after losing my Hylander in Harvey.
I've put 76,000 miles on it since then. Required $5000 worth of work when the A/C quit in Feb 2023, and another $2500 just in the past week when the transmission solenoid went bad.
Thank God the transmission was still under warranty, so $1900 was covered. It was close - less than 2000 miles to go!
Despite the Forester's comfort, maneouvrability, and great visibility, i'll never buy another Subaru.
The guys in the service department could not be anymore earnest and nice, I will say that, and I'm grateful to them.

I’m shopping for my 11th Subaru right now. I’d never buy anything else. Fantastic cars
What are the model years…
What are the model years that have failed? Reliability has much improved in recent years.
Lost all respect for Subaru…
Lost all respect for Subaru and its drivers because of " fake shifting "
Although I appreciate…
Although I appreciate authors opinion, and hearing about industry trends, I didn't hear anything about specific discounts or prices.
I just checked last month since I'm in the market for a 4x4 SUV and The Subarus were going at MSRP or quite close.
If I'm paying anything near MSRP I have other choices, like a Toyota.
Anyone that’s telling you…
Anyone that’s telling you they’re paying List for a Subaru is just crazy crazy. In New Jersey we’re seeing prices anywhere from $500-$2000 off of Windows sticker without any markup.
What is your opinion of the…
What is your opinion of the new outback hybrid that I believe is coming out. I love my outback and not ready for a full EV but am interested in the hybrid idea.
Shame they got rid of manual…
Shame they got rid of manual transmissions except on the WRX and the BRX. Would have bought one this year if they still had a stick shift
I'm ready to take my 2020…
I'm ready to take my 2020 Subaru Forester back and go somewhere else. Problem after problem. Car now stalling, ac needs repaired, have to add a quart of oil every month and there is no leaks. I'm done and I'm buying American.
At the end of January 2024,…
At the end of January 2024, I traded in my mini cooper Countryman leased vehicle early for a Subaru Crosstrek lease. Felt rushed. Little did I know prices were going down. Who knew.
Meanwhile, In many respects the vehicle performs quite well. Well, anfter all, it's brand new with all the bells and whistles.
Little did I know that there would be add-ons to the base price, and that the reported mileage of 26/34 Miles per gallon is not holding up - after 1000+ miles, getting less mileage than on the Mini cooper. I'm talking about 21 miles per gallon. That, in addition to the add-on for service makes me question whether I should've stayed with the Mini cooper, which has a better service program, better miles per gallon, and better mechanization.
Hello Dennis, I like my 2020…
Hello Dennis, I like my 2020 Subaru Forrester, although I would like to have a newer model with a full screen for maps!
Thanks for the article.

I am proud owner of a 3-6…
I am a happy owner of a 3-6 Legacy LTD. Yes it’s definitely a cut above the rest👍 FACT the higher your level of education the more you are inclined to possess a SUBARU in your collection as in all makes and models there are always bad apples in the basket. Thankfully we and most of our friends have never had a bad experience. So if you want your kids grandkids or spouse to get home safe then clearly the IHSA will confirm your SUBARU decision is a safe bet👍
I don't like engines that…
I don't like engines that blow head gaskets. Sorry. Been running Toyota trucks most my life. I'm 47. I have replaced a idler pulley and a U-joint total on 4 different trucks over the last 27 years.
That's it.
I wheel hard and tow.
But once cry once.
You have been driving the…
You have been driving the wrong manufacture years with the head gasket issues then. It lasted a long time but it was never all subarus. Just the same engine in several models over an unacceptable amount of years in a ridiculous amount of cars total. If subaru would have fixed the issue or put out a different engine in just a couple yearsnthey would have a much better reputation and be right up there as anfsmilybfscoritr like toyota.
I was a Toyota fan as well,…
I was a Toyota fan as well, until I got one of their bad apples. At 45 yrs old, I decided to try a Subaru, 2019 Crosstrek. I love it. I didn't think I would with a Cvt transmission, but I do. It is zippy, it handles well, and it gets the gas mileage promised. Omaha to Minneapolis on one tank. It's okay, we can love them both.
Thank you so much for your…
Thank you so much for your informative article! I was recently in a car rack and had held onto my car for a very long time so I’m out to buy a car. I have heard so many good things about Subarus. I’m really in the market for one either used or maybe even now that I’ve read this article! Not wanting a huge car payment but wanting something safe and energy efficient. I’m new to the Subaru arena. I look forward to reading some of your blogs and finding out some more information.
Thanks again
Christi
These cars are absolute…
These cars are absolute garbage. It’s not a case of IF the head unit fails (this contains the infotainment and screen for back up camera etc), but WHEN.
Do yourselves a favor and Google the issues. Subaru has no interest in fixing and leaves you in back order for a replacement for unreasonable periods of time.
Do NOT buy. My outback with 12k has had a transmission rebuild and now a failed head unit. My car’s value is severely affected.
I got a crosstrek 2024,for…
I got a crosstrek 2024,for 12 mounths and never obtain the miles per galon they advertize. On city the best I got is mayby 24 M/G. On the free way the best I got is 27/28 M/G. I try diferent driving stile. Noting change. I am on my 70 and I am not an agresive driver. Thanks.
Why is subaru not offering…
Why is subaru not offering us the saloon impresa and legacy cars for sale in Malta.?The only cars we can buy are the EXV and the solterra cars and a saloon is unavailable for us.
So what's new about marking…
So what's new about marking down carryover models? This isn't worth spending time reading.
I was planning on buy the…
I was planning on buy the forster or ascent.this year but was lucky to get my hands on a 2016 outback 3.6R. Yes an engine with a real timing change snd one of the last 6 cylinder engines made. From a family member 66k miles. Obviously highest trim. The only sucky thing about that year is all the high tech bugs aren't worked out. Screen freezing where you have to disconnect and reconnect the battery. Recall issues where steering column defect caused loss of control. Front strut issues (fixed of course) oh and the fact the cadylatix converters have to be changed like batteries if you don't clean them as often as a bleach blonde has her roots touched up. Should have been a Recall. Not covered. Fail at around 80k miles. And can kill the exhaust system. But it is a beast of a hatchback with 256hp and the fact that people are buying them for $20k in my area. I could have flipped it and bought new.. but having that V6 without compromising milage and the general toughness of it made it well worth keeping. I will be able to sell it for significantly more than what I paid for years to come snd it's engine is justbabout on par reliability wise as alot of Toyota (carry, corolla) lasting over 300k miles if loved well. Yes I'm bragging. Buying new cars is only good because thr fun of buying something new. Finding something used and getting a deal as well as reliability and specific features that aren't made much anymore is better. Did I mention I'm just here to brag? Who knows I might add a forester to the fleet too

My wife andI just had a head on collision in our 21 Outback. A older man had a medical emergency and vered into our lane he was being followed by the police so I was slowing down from 65 the police said he was traveling about 50. We managed to walk away with just bruising. He was driving a large SUV so our car was totally smashed. They are safe! We will get another.
