A Cybertruck owner following an off-roading trip shows all the parts that broke on his all-electric truck. Among other issues, the single trip cracked his Cybertruck’s passenger side window, dented his fender, and crashed the plastic mud flaps.
A Tesla Cybertruck owner, Manny Escobar, shares the aftermath of an off-roading outing he took with his all-electric truck.
Escobar writes, “After a night of off-roading, half of my truck is broken 🤣. I definitely need to remove those fairings; they are weak. Also, a light bar is needed for night riding. Do you have any recommendations?”
Following his post, Escobar shared several pictures of his Cybertruck, which showed cracked glass over the front passenger door, a dented front fender, broken mud flaps, and a scratched-up truck overall.
Escobar says the plastic mud flaps are especially weak on the Cybertruck and are not built to handle off-roading. Having said that, Escobar takes responsibility for having damaged his Cybertruck mud flaps by writing, “To be fair, the manual does say to remove the plastic mud flaps for off-roading, yet here we are.”
On the glass front, Escobar says, “Window got smacked right at the top edge by a flying rock.” As you can see in the picture he provided, the passenger-side window has a crack going all the way from the top to the bottom.
Tesla touts the Cybertruck glass as liquid metal and “shatter resistant.” However, as we have seen time and again, owners cannot get away with giving their Cybertruck glass less care than they do their other vehicles.
In Escobar’s case, his Cybertruck glass appears to have encountered the same issue as the infamous 2019 Cybertruck demo, where the glass broke on stage.
If you recall, at that time, Musk said the glass broke because it had formed a crack at the edge during the previous test where Tesla’s Chief Designer smashed a sledge hammer onto the body.
Getting hit at the edge weakened the glass, leading it to shatter. Regarding the recent incident, Escobar says, “If the rock hit the glass just a bit lower, I believe the window would have handled just fine.”
What’s interesting here is that the Cybertruck’s stainless steel exterior gives owners the false confidence that their vehicle is indestructible. Of course, the stainless steel bit is stronger than any other production vehicle; however, the Cybertruck is also made of several exterior plastic trims that negate the strength of the stainless steel.
Especially on the mud flap, Tesla has chosen to fit the Cybertruck with a hard plastic mud flap, Tesla most likely made this decision for aesthetic and range reasons. However, I don’t think you need me to tell the issue with hard plastic mud flaps.
Having so many parts broken in a single off-roading trip is frustrating in the first place, however, if you are dealing with Tesla, the issue will be further exacerbated by service concerns.
Unlike most other vehicle manufacturers, Tesla has chosen to do most of the repairs on its vehicles, however, although it sounds good on paper, Tesla Service has been beset with shortage of skilled technicians, subpar customer service, shortage of parts, high repair cost and so on.
Escobar will like have to wait several months and pay thousands of dollars to repair all the parts that broke during his off-roading trip.
Given all this issues one would expect, the Cybertruck owner would be unhappy with his all-electric truck, however, on the contrary, Escober says “besides all the broken parts, the Cybertruck handles awesome and keeps up with those dedicated off-road vehicles.”
Overall, looking at Escobar’s comments, it appears that he is happy with his Cybertruck and Tesla in general.
