In a video contianing Tesla’s humanoid robot, we see Optimus driving a Cybertruck. This is exciting however, it raises the question whether this is an inspiring future we all want to live in or if this is a dystopian nightmare we all should work to avoid.
Tesla has far outgrown its humble beginnings as a California-based EV maker. The company, which started with 4 people less than 20 years ago, has now grown to over 130,000 employees.
Tesla’s operations have also grown far beyond California. Not only has the EV maker moved its headquarters to Austin, Texas, but, Tesla currently operates 6 factories across 3 continents.
The EV maker also has a new factory in progress in Mexico, China, and Nevada, and is also in the process of selecting a new manufacturing site around the world.

In addition to the automotive world, Tesla has also grown to dominate the energy market and the software market with particular emphasis on autonomous driving software.
If all this is not enough, Tesla is also in the solar panel production and installation, and power utility and energy arbitrage business.
Despite the varied aspects of Tesla’s businesses, the EV maker has been playing in those different fields for some time. All of Tesla’s business ventures have a chance of becoming a big company on their own.
This is certainly exciting however, as of late, Elon Musk appears to be shifting Tesla to a new business opportunity that he believes could make Tesla by far the most valuable company in history.
Musk thinks full self-driving cars (robotaxi) and autonomous humanoid robots will increase Tesla’s market value to $10 trillion. More than that, Musk believes the Optimus humanoid robot will bring forth a new era of wealth creation where labor will no longer be the limiting factor for economic growth.
These are certainly utopian aspirations, however, as Musk loves to say “Fate loves irony – the most likely outcome is the most entertaining” and what starts out as a utopian aspiration can easily turn dystopian and cause hell on earth.
A video I recently stumbled upon of Tesla’s Optimus robot driving a Cybertruck for Uber has made me ask the question. Is this an inspiring future we all want to live in or a dystopian mechanical future that will cause suffering?
In the 40-second video produced by SoKrispyMedia, a person is seen hailing a cab using his phone. To the man’s surprise, a Tesla Cybertruck arrives. Not only that, the Cybertruck is being driven by a Tesla bot.
The person visibly shaken takes a step away from the robot. The Tesla bot then proceeds to pick up the man’s luggage and throws it to the back of the Cybertruck. The man unable to fathom the situation asks the Tesla bot why it’s (or he’s) (she’s) driving for Uber? The bot answers rather ironically that it’s because electricity prices are high.
Obviously, the video is a comedy skit and not some well-thought-out documentary foretelling how the world is going to change. However, with Tesla set to begin Cybertruck deliveries in a couple of weeks and the EV maker quickly advancing on the Tesla bot program, the depiction seen in the video is not as far in the future as most people would assume.
As of writing, for better or worse, Tesla has not yet created an autonomous humanoid robot. However, we’ll be sure to keep you posted as Tesla’s work on full self-driving cars and autonomous robots advances.

So what do you think? Are you excited to see the world run by autonomous robots and self-driving cars? Or do you think we should slow the technological progress until we understand things better? Let me know your thoughts in the comments below.
