A Rivian and a Ford are seen charging at a Tesla Supercharger using its magic dock. It is engineering genius seeing it in action.

Rivian Using Tesla Supercharger

At one of the newly opened Tesla Superchargers that is open to all EVs, a Rivian owner is showing how the process works to use Tesla's magic dock.

* You go to the Tesla app and go to charge your non Tesla
* Find your local Tesla Supercharger location
* Hit the charge option
* You will get instructions to find your post number and then select it
* Hit unlock CCS adapter, and you will hear a click
* Pull out the charger and the connected CCS adapter to charge your non Tesla vehicle
* Plug in the charger to your vehicle - you will see your charging speed, cost, and % on the app - in this case, the owner got about 153 kW - not bad!

The magic dock is an incredibly simple and well engineered design!

This is a very important step in the electrification of the world - much more important than people realize. The first big thing is that Tesla Superchargers are almost always working. People are going to start going to them instead of all the other ones. Tesla found a way to integrate the large and clunky CCS adapter into its chargers in an easy-to-use way.

The second very important step is that the infrastructure to handle EVs is now being put in place. Like gas stations today that can handle any vehicle, Tesla Superchargers will now also be able to handle any vehicle. This is huge and will remove anxiety from a lot of people about finding charging.

The third very important step is that charging is more often than not going to be cheaper than getting gas. There are some exceptions to this during very busy peak charging times occasionally, but in general, charging is going to be more cost-effective for everyone than getting gas.

The fourth and final step is that this is a major step in the movement to sustainable Energy. In the future, charging is going to be normal for everyone and solar panels and other renewable Energy sources will be powering Tesla Superchargers.

Future of Supercharging

What is the future of Supercharging going to be? First, all EVs are going to be allowed and there is another video of a Ford F150 lightning using a Tesla Supercharger. Using the app with a few quick options, the charger unlocked and came out without issue.

I think there is simply going to need to be education about EVs as they become mainstream and the primary mode of transportation. People are going to need to think in terms of kW and kWh and cost per kWh. This is different from cost per gallon of gas.

As more and more renewable Energy starts to power Tesla Superchargers and other charging stations, the cost of electricity will come down.

Another important note here is that Tesla figured out how to integrate the very large and clunky CCS adapter into its chargers in a very seamless way. The engineering of the magic dock is genius and simple. No other charging station company besides Tesla could have pulled off this design.

I see more and more Tesla Superchargers being built around the world to handle the increased demand of charging. In the future, they will literally be everywhere - in every city, just like a Shell gas station, there will be multiple Supercharging stations. They will be everywhere.

Engineering genius, would be for Rivian and Ford to not only retrofit their existing vehicles to the Tesla charging system and start installing that into their new vehicles.
