Tesla needs to overhaul its FSD software pricing. Right now, it's $199 a month as a subscription, or $12,000 for the lifetime of the car. There are some cases where FSD is transferable too.
Tesla FSD Transferable In Some Cases
Tesla's FSD (full self-driving) software is transferable in some cases. Here is the condition that makes it so:
If you take delivery of a new Tesla Model S/X/Y by March 31, 2024, you can transfer FSD from your old Tesla to this new Tesla you buy.
In addition to that, the new Model 3, which was given rave reviews by MKBHD, qualifies for free lifetime Supercharging transfer and FSD transfer.
The new Model 3 is so popular, in fact, that Tesla raised the price of the Long Range variant by $1,000 recently.
Tesla's older vehicles, like the Model S, often came with free Supercharging for life, and being able to transfer that may be attractive to some people.
FSD being transferable to a new car is nice and a good idea by Tesla. Right now, lifetime FSD is too expensive, even though the software has gotten very good.
There are some things Tesla can do with FSD and the pricing, and here's what I think they are.

Tesla Could Implement This Plan With FSD
Right now, lifetime FSD is $12,000, down from an all-time high cost of $15,000. The software gives you a lot, but does not yet make the car autonomous. Even with its version 12 that uses only neural nets, it's not worth the high price.
Tesla can implement three pricing models for its FSD software:
The first is a lifetime use for the life of the Tesla vehicle it is attached too. This version of FSD is not transferable and only applies to the vehicle it is bought for. Tesla should sell this version for $5,000.
The second implementation would be a price that can be transferred to new Tesla vehicles purchased by the owner. This would be attached to the Tesla account and would require that person to be buying a new Tesla and selling the old one with FSD to Tesla - a trade in.
The cost of this FSD should be $12,000 - just like it is now.
The third option is the subscription based model for FSD. Tesla should lower the cost of this to $99 per month and never change it - even when Tesla vehicles become autonomous. The reason is that this price is attractive even right now and most of Tesla's revenue in an autonomous world is not the subscription price of FSD, but the money made from a vehicle operating as a robotaxi.
Will Tesla listen to this? Probably not, :) However, share it with your social media and followers, and perhaps it will be heard!
