Delivery times for the Tesla Model X are getting pushed back, and this is because of increased demand.
Tesla Model X - Demand Is High
Lately, the Tesla Model X and Model S have shown a slowdown in sales when Tesla did their 3rd quarter financial results presentation. However, this appears to be changing for the Model X, which has had numerous price cuts.
The estimated delivery wait times for a new Tesla Model X AWD (long range) have been pushed back to January and February from December and January, which used to be from November to December recently. This is two delivery time updates in a short time, which signals higher demand.
The Model X is basically a larger Model Y, 12 inches longer, 3 inches wider, and 2 more inches tall and with more features and the falcon wing doors. A Model X AWD has about 330 miles of range and a top speed of 155 miles per hour and a 0-60 mph time of 3.8 seconds. It costs around $79,990 in the U.S., while the Model X Plaid costs $94,990. That's a big difference in price, of about $15,000.
One of my favorite videos of the Model X Plaid was it being shown on the German Autobahn, using its tremendous power from three electric motors. If you're interested in watching and reading about that, check out: Model X Plaid cruising the German Autobahn.

What About the Tesla Model S?
The Model S is essentially a larger Model 3 and is even more performant than the Model X. However, if you like space, the Model X is king in that area - that is until the Cybertruck is released. The Model S long range has a range of about 405 miles and a 149 miles per hour top speed and a 0-60 mph of 3.1 seconds. The Model S Plaid is even faster than this. And, the Model S Plaid is only $89,990, which seems like a steal if you can afford it. Also, all paint colors come with the Model S - there is no extra cost, no matter what color you choose.
The Model S and Model X had 15,985 deliveries in the 3rd quarter of 2023. I wish Tesla would break this number apart, so we could see the exact number of Model X and Model S vehicles delivered. The Model 3 and Model Y delivered 419,074 vehicles.
If I had enough money to buy any car I wanted, I would honestly choose the Model X over the Model S because I would be living in a home somewhere where the car could charge easily overnight. The car has a lot more space and can fit other people more easily.
I think this is the main advantage of the Model X over the Model S and the Model Y over the Model 3. That extra space is something that people are willing to pay for and like.
