An Uber driver was interviewed after driving a Tesla Model Y for 9 months for 100,000 miles. Here's all the details.
Uber Driver in Model 3
Dobson, a Model 3 standard range Uber driver, has driven over 100,000 miles. That is like driving the circumference of the earth 3 times. He used to drive a Toyota Camry, but said the difference between the Model 3 and the Camry is night and day.
He's been Supercharging twice a day over those 9 months, as well as slow charging overnight. Dobson drives about 300 miles a day and drives 6 days a week - year round. He saved about $10,000 in operating costs compared to his Toyota Camry.
Dobson spent $4,700 charging at Supercharging alone, and a few hundred dollars charging at home during off-peak hours.
The only thing he has had done on the Tesla is the upper control arm - he had it replaced. When Tesla saw the amount of miles on his car, he wasn't able to repair it under warranty. But, it was only $90. There were no oil changes at all needed on the car.
His Toyota Camry needed maintenance on so many different things, including oil and filters.
Dobson got a new charger to charge overnight that increased his charge rate from a few miles per hour to about 30 miles per hour.

What Happened To The Car
Dobson got his standard range Model 3 brand new with 240 miles of EPA rated range. He charges to about 90%. After all this driving and charging, the car has about 214 miles of charge, which is about 90% of the rated range when it was new.
I think that's pretty good, actually. I've seen my car lose mileage when fast charging, but it may just be that initial degradation, and it may be slower than that after this.
Sometimes, he has had to go charge when he would rather have had a longer range car that may have gotten him through is day of work. Still, he can come home close to 0% and charge at home.
Dobson also said that there was a mental block in his head against the Model 3, but found that over time, that you will make the money back. He was used to a gasoline car and the costs associated with it, including gas and maintenance. He looked at a Tesla as a luxury car.
Since he's had this car, he has better clients - not just picking up people, but he picks up people from offices where he takes staff to and from the airport.
