Future Tesla Vehicles in Europe

When you look at the report of the best-selling EVs in Europe, you can see that there are a variety of cars on the list. For many of the automakers, they make more models than Tesla has. Tesla has one model per vehicle segment. They have a Model 3 for sedan and a Model Y for SUV - that's it. There are no variations on that except the color of the car and the motors you get for the vehicle.

It looks like the EV buyers were split evenly between cars and SUVs, which are really crossovers or tall hatchbacks. The subcompacts and compacts are the most popular, which makes sense as they are generally cheaper.

Eventually, Tesla will have a Compact Model that makes this list and the top 3 in the future will look like this:

* Tesla Compact
* Tesla Model Y
* Tesla Model 3

The Tesla Model 3 was about 61% of the midsize car segment sales for BEV vehicles in Europe. These top 50 models are about 96% of the total BEV sales in 2022.

If you look at overall car sales, you will see that the Model Y is #13 overall and the Model 3 is 33 overall. This seems bleak for Tesla unless you consider this:

The Model Y was the only midsize SUV in the top 50 best-selling models in Europe for 2022. It is the most expensive of the bunch, and it's in 13th place.

The Model 3 was the best-selling midsize car and outsold the BMW 3-series and the Mercedes C-class. How is Tesla doing this - is there a supply chain challenge or parts shortage?

Really, it's about value for the money. The reason Hyundai can sell a lot more Tucsons than BMW can sell X3s is not because the Hyundai Tucson is a better car than the BMW X3, or because people are sticking to their "segment". It's because the Tucson is better value for money, and that is what Tesla excels at - best value for money.
