Nearly half of Lucid's 2022 output was took place in Q4 as AMP-1 production finally ramps up.
Lucid built 7,180 Lucid Air sedans in 2022 with nearly half of that number rolling off the AMP-1 production line in the fourth quarter of the year. After months of delays, parts shortages and personnel changes it seems that Lucid is finding its footing and starting to build cars in significant numbers.
The fourth quarter of 2022 proved to be far-and-away Lucid's best of the year with 3,493 examples of the Lucid Air Grand Touring, Touring and Pure plus new Dream Editions for Europe and Saudi Arabia built in the company's greenfield plant in Casa Grande, Arizona. This represents a 53% increase in production over the Q3 numbers that tripled those of Q2. Lucid delivered 1,932 vehicles to customers during Q4, and shipped 4,369 in total during 2022.
While 180 extra cars isn't a huge number it is greater than the 6000-7000 Lucid targeted after revising its production guidance numbers. Much more importantly for Lucid and its investors, it shows that the company can keep its word, and that it understands the realities of the world in which it operates.
We'll have to wait until February 22nd at 2.30 pm PT/5.30 pm ET to find out more when full Q4 and full-year results are reported. There's a disclaimer about production numbers being but one measure of the company's operating performance so maybe there's bad tidings coming in the earnings call, but for the time being the comapny's stock is enjoying its best run in 16 months.
This is the latest good news for Lucid, which has been buoyed in the past few days by healthy U.S. EV sales numbers for 2022 and beating a fraud case brought against it in 2021.
