Have you noticed a weird noise coming from your 2022 Toyota Highlander? You are not the only one! See what others have to say.
When I drive, I like to have a quite cabin with no outside noise. Unfortunately, my 2012 Prius sounds like a plane about to take off from the inside. However, I think it’s safe to say that cars are getting more quitter than they used to be. From features like sound dampening technology to a simple whether strip to keep the highway noise out, cars are getting quitter…unless you have a weird seal.
Greg Larsen, a new Highlander owner recently shared his remarks on the new 2022 Toyota Highlander on Facebook’s Toyota Highlander Owners Club. He said, “does anyone have a whistling noise coming from the windshield toward the upper part or maybe even the sunroof? It starts at about 40 mph.”
Surprisingly, a lot of other people also had this problem and upon further research, Toyota themselves made it public by stating that this was a bad seal. So, let’s take a look at what a few other 2022 Toyota Highlander owners said about their encounter with this noise.
One owner Piotr Folczyk said, “Yes, it is notorious. Very annoying.” Patrick Lewis also said, “It's the hood seal we have a 22 XLE and dealership had to order new one. It goes in 2 weeks to get replaced. you can use painters’ tape to make sure.” Look like Patrick went DIY and took care of the problem himself.
Of course, if you just drive it off the dealer’s lot and realize that there is something wrong with the noise, then you can always take it back and it should be covered by the warranty. Unless the dealer can prove some sort of modification not done by Toyota caused this sound (which it probably didn’t), I would just take it back to the dealer.
Maureen Driscoll-Boyle said, “Hood seal. Call your dealer, they will have to order one, but they'll put it on. They will have to drive it first though.”
So the part takes a long time to get here, 2 weeks for Patrick, however could you replace it on your own? If you are good with your hands and have a background in fixing things, it shouldn’t be too hard. However, if I was in that situation, I would even try to fix it and I would just take it back to the dealer and let them handle it. Toyota has not issued a recall for this problem although the warranty will most likely cover it,
So, if you have a noise from your 2022 Toyota Highlander, it may be because of a bad seal. Try your local dealership and if it’s still under warranty, they may take care of it for you. If not, try doing it yourself. I do not recommend it but if you are good with fixing things, the internet if full of answers.
