Lead Time Delivery on Your 2022 Toyota RAV4 Prime Might Be Longer Than You Think

Have you already placed an order for your 2022 Toyota RAV4 Prime? Well, you may be waiting a long time say some RAV4 Prime group members. Apparently the delivery lead times on the 2022 Toyota RAV4 Prime aren't short.

So, we are all hyped for the 2022 Toyota RAV4 Prime Right? I know I am. With almost any new car, you have to talk to your dealer, wait for delivery, and then go pick it up. Because of dealer allocation laws and rules, it’s pretty hard for you to walk into a dealership and just say, “gimmie that one,” unless you have a strong relationship with your dealer.

In a normal economy, you can expect to wait for say a 2022 Toyota RAV4 Hybrid for about 3 months until they ship it out to you. However, a recent post in a Facebook’s Toyota RAV4 Hybrid group revealed that people waiting for the 2022 Toyota RAV4 Prime are waiting for way longer than they should be. Tony Pellerite said, “Just put a deposit down on a RAV 4 Prime anyone have any information on lead times for delivery. Dealer said 4 to 6 months.”

Now, this is not that bad of a waiting time, especially for a plug-in hybrid SUV. However, the one part of this post that really shook me was the comments and other people posting on their waiting times. Here is what one of the users said. Greg Loewen said, “Put a deposit down in British Columbia, Canada, and are on 2 to 3 years waitlist. So, 4 to 6 months seems not so bad.” Even though he lives in Canada, 2 to 3 years is way too long of a wait. I’d wait that long for maybe the Tesla Cybertruck, but they aren’t even making those yet. The 2022 Toyota RAV4 Prime is already in production, and it shouldn’t take this long.

Amanda Long said, “We were told a year or so. So, we bought an HEV RAV instead that took about 2 1/2 months from allocation to delivery.” Another commenter was also given a waiting time of a year in England.

These are astronomically high waiting times, especially for an affordable SUV not made in small numbers. If this is true, it’s better to cancel and then wait 2 years and buy the 2022-year model as used for a cheaper price.

By the way, if you are wondering why your RAV4 Hybrid might be making some slow A/C propulsion, check out our latest article about the 2022 Toyota RAV4 Hybrid's A/C.

Now as to why it takes that long to get your 2022 Toyota RAV4 Prime? It may be because of a lot of reasons. The biggest reason might be chip shortages. The second biggest reason might be Toyota’s dealer allocations. I don’t know if Toyota has any plans to make this more streamlined in the future but to be fair, with the 2022 Toyota RAV4 Prime being a highly anticipated car and the economy looking global economy looking like pre-terminator times, I don’t think this is really Toyota’s fault but yet again, would you wait 3 years for a car that’s already being produced?

There are a few things that I would like you to know about the new RAV4 Prime. After owning the RAV4 Prime for a year, this owner reviews it and says the car is brilliant and he has no regrets. Interestingly, the RAV4 Prime owners begin buying a second one. Toyota’s ability to make the RAV4 Prime is really what set it at the top of the 2021 delivery list. "Almost every vehicle model in America today is limited not by popularity, but by production capability. Toyota’s ability to overcome adversity in its production is now enabling a new trend. RAV4 Prime owners are buying second ones," notes John Goreham from Torque News Toyota reporting team.

This is how the 2022 RAV4 Prime's waiting time was in early March of 2022 and you can check out it has changed since then comparing what the owners say in this article.

What do you think? How should Toyota fix this? Let us know in the comments below.

I have been on the waitlist since August 4, 2021 for my Hybrid Rav4 Cruiser. Still have no idea when I'll receive a call from the dealer telling me I'm in next months production list. I don't mind waiting even if it means I end up with next year's 2023 model! My 2016 Hyundai I30 will do just fine in the meantime!

Bought mine in September. Worker would email me what was coming in. Did paperwork before car arrived. Still driving on dealership gas. Love it. If you want one, try Carvana. Dealers appear to be auctioning the vehicles instead of delivering to customers. Capitalism is alive and well. Check out vehicle chain of custody on Carvana.

We ordered in December 2021 and got ours by Feb 1st. Not bad. And I got my super sonic red. Oregon dealer.

Hello,

That is awesome. I am also in Oregon and have been waiting since Nov 2021. Could you share which dealer you had your success with?

Thanks!

Placed my RAV4 Prime order in June 2021 and still waiting. No delivery time scheduled yet.
I am driving a Camry Hybrid and even though I am not in a hurry to get my hands on a Rav4 Prime, I may take the time to look at other PHEVs that will be available in the market...

Spoke with my dealer last month and was told that the expected wait time is 18-24 months and that is still not guaranteed. I went around and placed a refundable deposit for a Mitsubishi Outlander PHEV 2023 and the dealer said should be able to deliver by March next year. As per the early reviews on this car, they were positive and I hope this car will be turn out as reliable as the Toyota!

I originally ordered the Rav4 Hybrid in August 2021 to go on a 3 month 15k trip around the western half of Australia (SA, Northern Territory and WA) in mid August 2022! When it became apparent that the RAV4 wasn't getting here by August 2022 my partner and I decided to buy a 1994 Toyota Hiace Campervan instead. We are starting our trip mid August from Geelong, Victoria, and plan on getting back home by mid November. We're very much looking forward to the trip regardless. No guarantee that the RAV4 will be ready and waiting for me in mid Nov. to drive away from the dealer's yard though!!

Ordered RAV4 Prime and RAV4 Hybrid in October 2021 at Thornhill Toyota, Ontario, Canada. I was told 6 months. When I contacted the dealer about a week ago I was told it may take another year or longer due to Ukrainian war / supply chains shortages etc. I have a feeling dealers selling it at much higher price at auctions or with wholesalers given there are many RAV4 prime listed on Carguru for alimony $80k.
Ontario dealers are the most dishonest dealers in the world. I bet provincial government happy to take their cut and blind side to what ever goes on.

My family and Friends in Austin, Texas took a delivery of their RAV4 prime within 3 months.

In Vancouver, ordered August 2021. Dealer says they are only getting 1 or 2 a month so given where I am on the waitlist, its looking like a 2024 delivery. It would be interesting what Toyota Canada says about this as a 3-4 year wait seems ridiculous.

Toyota is considered a responsible brand. When 2022 Models of RAV 4 Prime was not able to be delivered to people who had booked, how are they delivering the RAV 4 Prime 2023 models??
Chip shortages should affect all models??
