Sometimes, a little thing can cause a big mess.
Just ask Porsche which is recalling all of the 918 Spyders because an of a misprint in a parts catalog. The sports car builder in a statement explained that it transposed the labels for the screws that hold in the seat belt mount and the belt reel mount. Making matters worse are the screws are one-time use - once they are in, they are not supposed to come back out.
"We cannot rule out the possibility that, due to the mistake in the catalog, technicians who had to work on those components might have been led to install the wrong screw in the wrong location," said Porsche in a statement.
What could happen if the screws aren't in the right place? In the case of an accident, the seat belt system might not be able to fully protect an occupant.
Porsche technicians will inspect the seat belt assemblies to see if the screws are in the right place or not. If it's the latter, the technicians will replace them.
