The 2024 Chevrolet Silverado EV RST version is expensive but has great EV range and all the bells and whistles a truck buyer might want.

Chevrolet is trucking ahead with its EV offerings and its latest may be the most important one, yet. The 2024 Chevrolet Silverado EV First Edition RST is now being built at GM’s Factory ZERO, in Detroit. It offers 440 miles of all-electric range and up to 10,000 pounds of maximum trailering with up to 1,500 pounds of payload. Chevy has been working the bugs out of the new truck by selling only fleet vehicles called work trucks. Now, the Silverado EV RST should soon be widely available. I have been writing about this truck for so long that it is a relief to finally see it go into mass production. The Silverado EV RST stickers for $96,495, which includes a $1,995 destination charge.

“Chevrolet has been building trucks for nearly 100 years and understands what customers want and need in a pickup,” said Scott Bell, vice president of Chevrolet. “Chevy’s truck leadership combined with our expertise in vehicle electrification has given us an advantage to deliver a revolutionary product. The Silverado EV RST has all the performance and capability of a traditional truck, plus all the benefits of electrification. It is an impressive and important addition to the Chevy truck franchise.”

2024 Chevrolet Silverado EV First Edition RST

The 2024 Chevrolet Silverado EV RST includes the bells and whistles that most truck buyers want including:

  • GM-estimated 440-mile range on a full charge on RST
  • Up to 754 horsepower with more than 785 lb.-ft. of torque in  Wide Open Watts Mode on First Edition RST
  • GM-estimated 0-60 mph time of less than 4.5 seconds in WOW Mode
  • Standard DC fast charging (up to 350kW) on RST
  • Up to 10.2kW of offboard power on RST with optional equipment
  • Up to 10,000 pounds of maximum trailering with up to 1,500 pounds of payload on RST

The Silverado EV is available in two configurations, a First Edition RST and a fleet-oriented WT model. Each offers a comprehensive suite of standard and available safety technologies. Both versions are built on GM’s Ultium battery platform.

The fully loaded First Edition RST also includes:

  • Four-Wheel Steer
  • Automatic Adaptive Air Suspension
  • Multi-Flex Midgate that expands the truck’s cargo capability while maintaining seating for rear-row passengers
  • Available Multi-Flex Tailgate with power release
  • Large, 17-inch-diagonal LCD infotainment screen
  • A multi-color driver head-up display with a field of view of over 14 inches
  • Trailering-capable Super Cruise, GM’s hands-free driver-assistance technology, allowing drivers to travel hands-free on more than 400,000 miles of compatible roads across the U.S. and Canada

“Our design and engineering teams started from the ground up to create a pickup with impressive performance and capability,” said Kathy Gillespie, Silverado EV chief engineer. “The Silverado EV RST is a long-range, fast charging electric truck that does all the ‘truck things’ customers want and more. It can tow, haul and carry passengers comfortably. With 754 horsepower, it also happens to be the most powerful Silverado we’ve ever built.”

The Chevrolet Silverado EV RST was built specifically to ride on the Ultium battery pack. This structural design provides a more comfortable, confident ride both on- and off-road. The chassis is designed with independent front and rear suspensions. There are both front and rear drive motors that compose the e4WD system. Automatic Adaptive Air Suspension enables the vehicle to be raised or lowered up to 2 inches (50 mm) to clear obstacles while off-roading.

Four-Wheel Steer provides greater maneuverability in parking lots, and enhances handling and stability at higher speeds, particularly when trailering.

The RST models also have a special Tow/Haul mode, trailer hitch provisions, and an integrated trailer brake controller and Hitch Guidance. The RST also includes Chevy’s Advanced Trailering System.

“We had no constraints when it came to designing the Silverado EV with dramatic style and flexible utility because we didn’t need to work around a traditional propulsion system,” said Phil Zak, executive director of Chevrolet Design. “The Ultium Platform allowed us to redefine what it means to offer expansive new storage and utility possibilities.”

2024 Chevy Silverado EV RST is Designed for Optimal EV Performance

If buyers purchase the available accessory power bar, the Silverado EV’s PowerBase charging system offers up to 11 outlets. The PowerBase can provide a total of 10.2kW of all-electric power for worksites or recreational needs. The PowerBase can also power a home if it has the compatible equipment.

The Silverado EV is also capable of charging another EV using a special accessory charge cord. That capability could be critical during power outages or off-roading when other EVs run low on juice.

The RST features public DC fast charging capabilities of up to 350kW enabling approximately 100 miles of range to be added in 10 minutes based on GM estimates. The MyChevrolet mobile vehicle app can direct RST owners to over 174,000 public chargers.

2024 Chevrolet Silverado EV RST Designed for Comfort and Performance

The Silverado EV will be offered exclusively in Crew Cab models.  The second row is pushed rearward, meaning passengers over 6 feet tall will be comfortable no matter where they sit. There is customizable first row storage, so the RST maximizes the truck’s interior space.

The eTrunk which virtually every EV has is a lockable, weatherproof compartment in the front of the vehicle. It is big enough to hold a large suitcase. It could also hold accessories or gear, whatever the owner needs.

The RST makes the most of the 5-foot-11-inch truck bed. The Multi-Flex Midgate provides just over 9 feet of storage between the cab and the tailgate when the Midgate is open. Buyers can get a tonneau cover that allows cargo like lumber or a kayak to be loaded into a fully lockable, weatherproof storage compartment.
