GM is recalling 380,000 2010-2016 Cadillac SRX and 2011-2012 Saab 9-4X vehicles because of problems with the rear suspension.

General Motors is recalling 380,498 2010-2016 Cadillac SRX and 2011-2012 Saab 9-4X vehicles because of a rear suspension problem. According to GM documents, a loose toe link can cause the vehicles to sway or wander at highway speeds. GM does not break down how many of each vehicle are being recalled.

Rear Toe Link Separation Recall

According to information filed with the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration, a rear suspension toe link may come loose or separate on the vehicles involved in the recall. GM says “In rare cases, dealers or independent repair shops may not have followed GM’s published procedures for torquing the jam nut in the toe link adjusters to the proper specification.” If the toe link comes loose, the driver could have trouble controlling the vehicle and it increases the risk of a crash. The NHTSA campaign number for the recall is 21V473000.

How GM Will Fix the Problem

Dealers will replace the adjustable toe link with a non-adjustable one, free of charge. Owners should stop driving the vehicle immediately if they have any trouble with steering.
Owners are also advised to not drive their vehicle if they experience certain Malfunction Indicator Lamp (MIL) warnings while driving.

Warnings may include:

  • Service Traction Control message
  • Service Stabilitrak message
  • Stabilitrak malfunction indicator lamp (MIL) stays on or flashes intermittently
  • Service Rear Axle message
  • Chimes in combination with any of these messages or MILs
  • Sway or wander while driving
  • Loud metallic or other unusual noise from the rear suspension
  • Off-center steering wheel
  • Uneven wear between the rear tires

Anyone who has any of these warnings should stop driving the vehicle and have their vehicle towed on a flatbed to a dealer immediately.

Owners will be notified by mail. The letters are expected to be mailed August 9, 2021. Owners with questions or concerns may contact Cadillac customer service at 1-800-458-8006 and Saab customer service at 1-800-955-9007. GM’s number for this recall is N212340980.

Owners may also contact the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration Vehicle Safety Hotline at 1-888-327-4236 or go to www.nhtsa.gov.
