Off-roading is the big buzzword right now in the pickup and SUV world. GMC is adding an upgraded package to its 2023 GMC HUMMER EV supertruck and 2024 HUMMER EV SUV to give them extreme off-roading capability.
GMC is beefing up both the 2023 GMC HUMMER EV supertruck and the 2024 GMC HUMMER EV SUV to make them extreme off-roaders. GMC is adding a new trim level called 3X that gives both HUMMERS better range and more agile off-road handling. GMC is estimating that the 3X trim will give the 2023 GMC HUMMER pickup up to 355 miles of range. The EPA is estimating that the 2024 GMC HUMMER EV SUV will get 314 miles of electric range with the 3X trim.
“GMC has long been a leader in professional-grade trucks and the GMC HUMMER EV continues to rock the establishment, setting new standards in technology, capability, and maneuverability,” said Al Oppenheiser, chief engineer, GMC HUMMER EV. “Our unwavering goal was to develop an off-road capable supertruck right from the factory and we’re excited to show the world what 100-plus years of vehicle development know-how can do when applied to EV power.”
The 2023 GMC HUMMER EV Pickup
The GMC HUMMER EV was the first big EV pickup to hit the market. It stunned potential buyers with unheard of features like 4-Wheel Steer and the ability to Crabwalk or creep forward at an angle. The EV pickup also had the ability to harness a burst of EV power to give the truck the capability to go super fast for a short period of time. That burst of EV power is called the Watts to Freedom mode. GMC released a video of the truck doing 0-60 mph in approximately 3 seconds.
The 2023 GMC HUMMER EV will still offer its Edition 1 trim but it will also add the new 3X trim level. GMC is acknowledging that much of the growth in the pickup market right now is fueled by off-roading. Adding a new package gives buyers even more options when it comes to customizing their supertruck.
The 3X trim will come standard with 22-inch wheels and 35-inch All-Terrain tires that offer a sportier, more on-road-oriented driving dynamic. In this configuration, customers can expect a GM-estimated driving range of up to 355 miles on a full charge, allowing them to take their electric supertruck journey even further.
True Off-Roaders May Want the New Extreme Off-Road Package
For those that want to upgrade even more for off-roading, the 3X trim will also offer the Extreme Off-Road Package, which includes additional underbody cameras, additional skid plates and rocker protection with built-in assist steps, as well as 18-inch wheels and 35-inch Mud-Terrain tires. This configuration will offer a GM-estimated driving range of up to 329 miles on a full charge, the same as the Edition 1 Pickup.
GMC says all three different versions of the GMC HUMMER EV pickup will have 1000 horsepower and 11,500 lb.-ft. of torque. The 2023 GMC HUMMER EV 3X Pickup will be able to tow 8,500 pounds while Edition 1 and the Extreme Off-Road version will be able to tow 7,500 pounds.
2024 GMC HUMMER EV SUV
The 2024 GMC HUMMER EV SUV Edition 1 and 3X SUV debuts with two different versions for customers. One version is designed for on-road and one is for off-road.
The GMC HUMMER EV SUV on-road version features 22-inch wheels and 35-inch All-Terrain tires as standard and offers a sportier, more urban focused look and feel for both Edition 1 and 3X trims. This configuration will offer an EPA-estimated electric range of up to 314 miles on a full charge.
The 2024 HUMMER EV SUV with the available Extreme Off-Road package features 18-inch wheels and 35-inch Mud-Terrain tires, which includes additional underbody cameras, additional skid plates and underbody protection, and rocker protection with built-in assist steps. This configuration will offer an EPA-estimated electric range of up to 298 miles on a full charge.
All of the versions of the 2024 GMC HUMMER EV SUV will feature 850 horsepower and 11,500 lb.-ft. of torque. Towing capacity for all versions will be 7,500 pounds.
