The 2020 Ram Heavy Duty just won a major award and it cements the Ram truck line as a leader in the pickup truck arena.
The 2020 Ram Heavy Duty's latest award proves that the Ram truck is not just another pretty face. MotorTrend has selected the 2020 Ram Heavy Duty as its 2020 Truck of the Year. This means that Ram has won the award two years in a row, a huge feat for any vehicle brand. Last year MotorTrend selected the 2019 Ram 1500 as its Truck of the Year.
The MotorTrend award recognizes both the 2020 Ram 2500 and the 2020 Ram 3500.
“The new Ram Heavy Duty makes a powerful statement about our company and the Ram Truck brand,” said Reid Bigland, Head of Ram Brand. “In a brutally competitive truck industry, earning MotorTrend’s Truck of the Year title in consecutive years reaffirms the fact that we have the best light- and heavy-duty trucks on the road today.”
Why the MotorTrend Award is Important
While lots of publications, auto shows and media outlets give awards, the MotorTrend awards are highly respected. MotorTrend puts the vehicles through a full battery of tests and the vehicles are driven on three different courses so all aspects can be compared. MotorTrend selects vehicles based on value, superiority in their classes and impact on the auto industry. According to MotorTrend the awards are based on six criteria: design advancement, engineering excellence, efficiency, safety, value and performance of intended function.
“Ram Heavy Duty is MotorTrend’s 2020 Truck of the Year because it delivers unmatched performance, capability and style to the ultracompetitive truck segment,” said MotorTrend Editor-in-Chief Edward Loh. “Engineered for work and play, Ram 2500 and 3500 reward true truckers with unflappable powertrains, sumptuous, high-tech interiors and a range of thoughtful utility features. Congratulations to Ram for back-to-back Truck of the Year wins.”
Recent 2020 Ram Heavy Duty Upgrades
In 2019, the Ram 1500 was highly praised for its interior upgrades. In 2020, Ram makes similar upgrades to the interiors of its heavy duty trucks. The improvements include a large, easy to use infotainment touchscreen, more comfortable seating and greatly improved legroom. The Ram truck line boasts the most interior storage as well.
The 2020 Ram Heavy Duty will have a towing capacity of 35,100 pounds with a payload capacity of 7,680 pounds. The Cummins I-6 turbo diesel engine will produce an astounding 1,000 lb.-ft. of torque.
Ram, this year, has moved into second place in the pickup truck wars, outselling the Chevrolet Silverado. The Ford F-Series trucks still lead in overall sales.
Ram has won MotorTrend’s Truck of the Year award five times in the last decade: 2010, 2013, 2014, 2019 and now 2020.
