Newsweek is out with a list of what it is calling America’s Most Anticipated Vehicles for 2025. The Ram 1500 Ramcharger EV and the Jeep Wagoneer S EV both make the list. The vehicles are both significant for their brands but Newsweek indicates that the vehicles will be significant for the American automotive market as well.
The Newsweek List
The Newsweek awards program celebrates 25 vehicles that are new to the market, redesigned, refreshed or equipped with new powertrains. The award recipients are a mix of cars, trucks and SUVs and feature a variety of powertrains. The vehicles include gasoline, hybrid, plug-in hybrid and battery-electric models.
The 2024 Jeep Wagoneer S
The all-new, all-electric 2024 Jeep Wagoneer S Launch Edition has been talked about for years. Jeep says it is delayed to iron out any bugs in the all-new EV platform. The Wagoneer S is a BEV with a range of more than 300 miles on a single charge. It is expected to deliver 600 horsepower and 617 lb.-ft. of immediate torque. The Jeep Wagoneer S will have a 0-60 mph acceleration time of 3.4 seconds.
In its review, Newsweek says,
“Jeep was supposed to bring the Wagoneer S to market in the autumn of 2024, but it's been put on hold to make it "perfect" quality, said Antonio Filosa, chief executive officer of Jeep, in September. The company told Newsweek that they will have fresh launch timing information available "soon." The 600-horsepower electric SUV pairs power with the company's traction management system to deliver a zippy drive. Jeep promises a range of 300 miles from a single charge. With a 19-speaker McIntosh sound system, electronic door releases, 45 inches of usable screen space and customizable LED lighting, Wagoneer S is positioned to be the most technologically advanced Jeep on the market. The Jeep Wagoneer S Launch Edition will be the first model out of the gate. It is priced at $71,995 including the destination charge.”
The Ram 1500 Ramcharger EV
Technically, the Ram 1500 Ramcharger is a hybrid of sorts. It has a gas-powered engine, but that is never to drive the vehicle. The gas engine will only recharge the electric motors.
The all-new battery-electric vehicle technology is expected to deliver the industry’s best combination of range, towing and payload. With a targeted range of up to 690 miles, the truck is capable of producing 663 horsepower and 615 lb.-ft. of torque. The truck will do 0-60 mph in 4.4 seconds. The towing will be a huge draw, it is capable of towing up to 14,000 lbs. with a payload of up to 2,625 pounds.
Newsweek says this about the Ramcharger,
“The Ram 1500 Ramcharger splits the difference between an all-electric truck like the Ford F-150 Lightning and a gas-powered model like the Chevrolet Silverado 1500. Its plug-in hybrid electric powertrain allows the model to use gasoline to power the truck's battery-electric system. This means owners can drive a truck with zero emissions most of the time but have a built-in range extender engine that allows long-distance travel and towing without anxiety traditionally caused by an all-electric powertrain. Interested buyers can put their name on the waitlist for the all-electric Ram REV 1500 or Ram 1500 Ramcharger by purchasing a $100 Ram REV Insider+ membership. The cost of the Ramcharger is expected to be announced closer to its on-sale date.”
Both vehicles are expected in the first part of 2025, but Jeep and Ram are not releasing any exact launch dates right now.
