Some 2019-2020 Ram 1500 pickups have floor mats that can interfere with the gas pedal.
Fiat-Chrysler is voluntarily recalling nearly 190,000 2019-2020 Ram 1500 pickups because the all-weather floor mats can cause the accelerator pedal to get stuck. Luckily, Ram has not had any accidents or injuries reported because of the problem.
Why Ram is Recalling the Trucks
The recall involves 2019-2020 Ram 1500 trucks that were ordered with all-weather floor mats straight from the factory. The adjustable pedals may get too close to the floor mats and get stuck. All FCA vehicles are now equipped with brake-throttle override, which lets drivers use the brake to automatically stop a vehicle with a stuck throttle. FCA started investigating after a driver reported that the floor mat interfered with the accelerator. The driver was able to safely stop using the brake-throttle override.
How Ram Will Solve the Problem
Ram will contact all of the affected owners. Customers who ordered the factory-installed all-weather floor mats will be told to go to their dealers where their floor mats will be modified until they can be replaced with a new all-weather mat. Ram estimates that only 1 percent of the 186,233 owners will have the problem. The recall only affects 2019-2020 Ram 1500s that have adjustable pedals and the factory-installed all-weather mats.
Customers are advised to remove the mats if they think they have any clearance problem between the pedal and the floor mat. They can also contact their dealers if they have any questions.
Ram and Fiat-Chrysler are Also Recalling Other All-Weather Mats
The recall involves an estimated 160,229 vehicles in the U.S. Another 21,937 vehicles are being recalled in Canada. There are 872 of the trucks in Mexico. And 3,195 were sold outside of North America.
Fiat-Chrysler and Ram are also recalling 43,148 all-weather floor mats sold as aftermarket equipment. Customers will be advised to bring their mats to a dealer for modification, until they can be replaced.
