As the year winds down and turns into December, Ford reports that its electric vehicle sales are outpacing the market. According to figures released this week, the automaker's electric sales are expanding at twice the rate of the rest of the segment.
Things keep getting better and better for Ford’s electric vehicle (EV) sales. According to the latest sales figures, Ford’s sales of electric vehicles expanded at about twice the rate of the overall EV segment last month. The increase occurred as the automaker prepared to increase production to meet U.S. demand.
EV Sales Up 103 Percent For November
According to Ford’s November figures, sales of the automaker’s EVs were up 103 percent for the month compared to 2021. This makes Ford the second-best brand and manufacturer of EVs behind Tesla.
Since the end of May, Ford F-150 Lightning sales have totaled 13,258 trucks. In November, Lightning sales totaled 2,062 pickups.
Meanwhile, Ford’s E-Transit electric van continues to lead the commercial EV industry with an 80 percent market share. In November, the automaker sold 654 E-Transits; on a year-to-date basis, the automaker has sold 5,811 electric vans.
Mustang Mach-E sales climbed 14.6 percent over last year on sales of 3,539 vehicles. As noted in Torque News earlier this week, Ford's global production for the Mach-E has now topped 150,000 EVs. Ford continues to post record retail orders as demand for the 2023 model year vehicle grows.
Ford Bronco Sales Continue Surging
When Ford introduced the Bronco a couple of years ago, no one knew if its sales would take off. Whoever made the decision to produce the iconic SUV that is reminiscent of the SUV that debuted 50 years ago. Bronco SUV sales climbed 12.6 percent on sales of 9,330 vehicles in November. Speaking of SUV sales, sales of the luxury Expedition three-row SUV increased by 28.9 percent.
Meanwhile, Ford’s retail orders are up 104 percent over 2022 model year numbers from a year ago. Retail orders for 2023 model-year vehicles totaled 307,000. Ford’s retail share is up about one full percentage point over 2021.
With one month left this year, Ford’s pickup business continues to surge strongly. The automaker is on track to retain its crown as the best-selling pickup on the market. The F-150 is the best-selling truck in the pickup segment through November. The automaker expanded its lead as America’s best-selling truck over its second-place competitor to 117,415 trucks through November.
“Strong order demand continues with overall retail orders for 2023 model year vehicles up 104 percent compared to a year ago, driven by Super Duty and Maverick. Super Duty took in a record 152,000 total orders since order banks opened on October 27th. As the year closes out, F-Series expanded its lead to more than 117,000 trucks over its second-place competitor,” said Andrew Frick, vice president, Sales, Distribution and Trucks, Ford Blue.
BlueCruise Software Suite Adding Functionality
Ford’s BlueCruise/Lincoln ActiveGlide technology customer enrollment continues to grow. The number of subscribers has passed the 100,000 mark with a total of 109,000 enrollments. Meantime, Next-gen BlueCruise/ActiveGlide 1.2 will gain more functionality by adding hands-free lane changing for easier passing, in-lane repositioning to confidently share roadways with larger vehicles, and predictive speed assist in reducing speed entering tight curves smoothly.
